are we the last ones to open this year?
« on: October 06, 2008, 01:11:00 PM »
NY's southern zone bow season doesn't open until 10/18. Does anyone else open later than this? All these successful hunters are killing me! AGGGGGH.   :banghead:    :banghead:

looks like it, Brent. I'm lucky to have hunted in September, and killed an Elk. Makes me less anxious about the next 2 weeks

Brent,

Nope, your not the last one to have your season open, at least not alone anyways. Ours opens on Saturday October 18th also. It seems like it gets later and later here in West Virginia every year.

no kidding winterhawk. I've been watching a big 10 eat acorns on the edge of a field right under my tree stand for 2 weeks now. By the  time the season gets here he'll be gone and so will the acorns!

It is going to be the same thing here. The white-oaks have been falling for about two weeks here now, and they will be soon all consumed by either turkey's or deer. I don't know why they waited until past the middle of the month here. It used to come in on the second Saturday, because squirrel season always came in on the first Saturday.

I guess were gonna have to find another source, perhaps the red-oaks.

NW Florida open Oct 18th also, but we get to hunt until 1 March 2009 minus a week or two during the season.  The added bonus is that we can take 2 deer a day.

We have to push for an earlier opener, ecsp. since we keep losing days. It used to be the 15th. of Oct, so that is 3 days lost and the gun season opened the 3rd. monday in Nov. now it is the 3rd. sat so we lose 2 more days there, that is 5 days lost this year. we need an Oct. 1st. opener for sure! I just went to a outdoor show and helped at the "New York Bowhunters" display. They were looking for new members and asking all bow hunters to sign a copy of their letters questioning the shortened bowhunting season. They have a web site and will most likely make a copy of the letter available.

Gee Brent, Good thing I seen this Buddy.....

(for some reason I had "The Saturday immediatly before the 15th" on my mind.....)

I sure wish that they would stick with set dates!!!!! Oct.1st would be GREAT,but the 15th is good. At least if they had set dates from one year to the next,it would be easy to plan your hunting season, trips, etc.

Chuck,
The dates are kind of set. Southern archery opener is open the 1st Sat. immediately following Columbus day. (DEC web site) Until we can muster enough voices things will stay the same or it might even get worse with the crossbow
industry throwing money at our state reps every year. Call your local reps, join (if you haven't already) NY Bowhunters. Make your voice heard.
If we don't it's our own damn falt!!
I reckon so

I was thinking 15th operer as well. Been like that for years. Someone finally told me the 18th a few days ago. As for the 27th opener upstate thats great for you but will cost about $200 in gas round trip for me? I grew up outside of Utica & used to go to the North early every year. I sure do miss it. Mike
