Morning all, Well I just started using a Trad bow in Dec. or so, Buddy of mine got me started. Our season for bow up here starts on Oct. 1 so I been hunting a farm about 30 miles from home. Nice cause I can get up early hunt and be at work by 11:00 a.m.. Have seen lots of deer but yesterday morning I was cold I could not get comfortable in one tree stand I use so I got down and walked the property. I happened to come across two old tree stands that we had never seen. Both had not been used but were in a perfect spot about 3 runs within 15- 20 yards passed by. Anyway had to leave to go to work. So told my hunting partner about them and said we gotta sit in them they are perfect. Back at work these stands are eating at me, cause I know they would be great in the afternnon and evening. So about 3:00pm I told my employees that I was going to go back hunting.
I drive back to the farm get in the stand and within 20 minutes I have two does in a field just south of me grazing but slowing working towards me. They start looking to the west nervously. All of a sudden two deer come busting up over a hill to my west and the two out of the south coming tearing into the woods. I can't get a shot at any of em, then I see a neighbor lady walking out of their woods. So I set for another few minutes and decide she probably ruined the spot for the time so I lower down the bow and get ready to go to another stand. Just as I get up to climb down I notice movement to my east. Here comes a deer! So I sit, hoist the bow back up and wait. It works its way towards me, in and out of scrub brush. Finally at about 12 yards or so I get my shot. The deer is broad side with its head just into a bush eating. I pull and shoot. I shot left of my spot and hit just at the back hip. (This is ugly I'm thinkingas I watch the arrow fly I'll track this forever) Damned if when that arrow hit the deer dropped right there! It drug itself just under may stand and died. I had to hit an artery and pelvic bone. It sure isn't my biggest deer by any means but it is my first archery kill and first trad kill and with a borrowed bow. SWEET!
