Ft. Supply Oklahoma?
« on: October 10, 2008, 05:23:00 AM »
Anyone ever hunted this area? It is a game mgt. area that is open to public hunting. I was thinking of going with my longbow during the muzzleloader opener 10-25-08.

On google earth it looks like fairly flat terrain with food plots and thickets.

razor - I have hunted it for turkeys in the spring, but I like Cooper WMA just north of there. Fort Supply has a lot more tree cover than Cooper, but it is easier access. If you're interested in Cooper I can point you towards a great camping spot as well as some nice funnels.

I hunt it, and Cooper. Not a trophy area but some nice bucks. Its heavy cover and alot of sloughs with Wolf Creek running threw it. Its walk in only and I would bring a deer hauler. I live 10 miles from it. Sent you a PM.

Thanks guys, I'd like the low down on both places. My buddies will all be doing the muzzleloader thing. I'll likely just hunt Ft. Supply this time as my time is limited.

How about pop up blinds vs. treestands near the food plots?

I used to hunt Cooper when Mrs. Cooper still owned it. It was my favorite place to go. I prefer private land for lots of reasons though, so when Mrs. Cooper donated it to the state, I started hunting elsewhere. I think it would still be a wonderful place to hunt though, and better for deer than Ft. Supply. Get down by the river for the best hunting. I like the northeast part of the old ranch just north of the river next to the private land on the east.

Here's an aerial pic from google earth of Ft. Supply. Can you guys point out some areas that are worth scouting? If you save the pic and open it in paint you can put a dot on the spot where you would go. I guess you'd have to load it up to photobucket. If it's too much of a pain I understand.

Can you guys point me to a good camping spot? Just a PM to get me in the right area would be fine.

You can camp a few miles away at the lake with Electric hookups and water or you can camp close to WMA which is primative.
