Scouting trip of new hunting area 10/10/08
« on: October 10, 2008, 09:07:00 PM »
Well, I got up this morning and tuned my new Blacktail, fueled up the 4 wheeler and set out to explore my new hunting grounds.

I arrived around 10:00 am and headed to the ridge about 1/2 mile away. Got there and too thick for 4 wheeler, so had to hoof it up a trail leading up the ridge. On the way, I found a good area for my climbing stand. There are 4 rubs in site of the tree I selected.

This is a view looking down the trail.

A couple of rubs.

After clearing some shooting lanes and putting out some trail markers so I can find it in the dark, I headed on up to the ridge top. I topped out and this is the scene I saw.

This is a spring fed pond I found and there is all kinds of sign around it. Trails leading to it from a couple of directions. I found a great spot for my double bull and here is the view from it. Across the pond is about 20 yards and a trail comes by at 5 yards. Should be a great ambush site. I can hardly wait till Sunday when I return to hunt. I will tell more then.

I had a great day exploring and saw and doe with a yearling and also spotted a 4 point sneaking through the timber.

I believe I'd a paid a nickel more and got me a pretty bow.  Just kidding that is a beauty!  Looks like a great hunting place too.  Good match up of gear and equipment.  Good luck with the hunt.

Looks like the perfect place to spend a day or two, deer or no deer! I'll admit though, it looks extremely 'deer-ey'  :D

Come on Donald, we are all waiting around wondering if you killed a deer or fell out of your tree stand or whatever. At least let us know you are okay!

That is a great looking area. I will be doing my hunting on the other side of the state - out by Woodward.
