Planning a wildgame dinner for family/friends??
« on: October 15, 2008, 02:44:00 PM »
I'm interested in thoughts about planning a wildgame dinner for family/friends.
Essentially a pitch-in with rules like Don Thomas has mentioned in articles when up in Alaska...it must be killed, gathered or grown (or to that effect).

Not so much interested in actual recipes but rather what made it a good experience-- did u show pics, slideshows, etc. Did you label the dishes or have each quest quess  :scared:  ?   Especially for non-hunting attendees. Thanks

I would say no to pictures for non-hunting guests.  What makes it a good experience for them is that the food is tastefully prepared and tastes good.  Casual conversation, a little "how-to" and an emphasis on tradition, utility, conservation and respect.  Good bourbon never hurts.

We have had some really successful meals, with Venison, Boar, Sheep and Goat. Sometimes pot luck and other times my wife and I have done all the cooking.
If asked, we tell anyone what it is that they are about to eat, just so they can make the choice.
I would not fool a Jewish person into eating Pork, nor would I tell someone they are about to eat beef when it is in fact Moose-to each his own.

Want to go for extra points?
Lots of wild edibles out there to garnish the meat.  ;)
