Yesterday was quite exciting to say the least and I wanted in the worst way to sit in the same stand as I did on Sat but I knew that I had to give it a rest. One thing I noticed on Sat afternoon was the squirrels were climbing around knocking a lot of beach nuts down and the deer were feeding heavy on them so my stand of choice was in a beach tree with plenty more around it, I had moved one of my stands there in late Sept. because of three nice trails that came together in that location. I was in the stand before daylight, it was pretty cool this morning we had a hard frost it was the kind of morning that you wish for. I sat there for over two hours and all I saw were squirrels, then out in front of me noticed a little movement then I thought I saw a deers head. Next thing I can see him walking towards me feeding his way down the trail he stopped at 20 yards broadside, I thought about shooting then but I decided to wait to see if he would come closer he did, he strolled in to about 10 yards not a thing in the way, I drew anchored picked my spot and the arrow was on the way. I knew he was done for after the hit there was about 6 inches of arrow left sticking out of him the shot looked perfect. He ran about 40 yards and stopped I thought he was going down there but after a second he took off running, about two seconds later I heard him crash. When I got down and looked were I first shot him there was blood right there, and that is always a good sign. He is just a spike but I weighed him and he tipped the scales at 145# not to shabby, this was the first deer I killed with a recurve and I was wearing plaid, I had deer look right at me with this shirt on and pay no attention at all. Joe came back with me to help drag him out and to make sure I ordered some Slim Jim's were we get the deer cut up. I'm real pleased with my setup this season my 45# grizzly with some four fletch carbons, I played around with this all summer just to get it set up right and to be ready for this moment.
