Yes. It's Bob Munger, Fred's hunting partner on this Brazil hunt in 1967 and the animal is an Asiatic Buffalo shot in Brazil on Dec 19, 1967. The same photo appears in his Field Notes on P. 285 but the guide is in the photo instead of Bob. Bob appears in other photos with the same hat.

Looks like Bob Munger - Freds oldest and best hunting friend

He and Bob shot two buffalo traveling together but Bob used a rifle since the two buffalo were spread apart by 60 yards and simultaneous bow shots were impossible. They hunted from a machan overlooking a mudhole (raised platform) and spent the night in it from 5PM on. At daybreak the two bulls splashed their way to them and Fred let his bull pass by and shot him through the lungs at 15 yards. Bob shot his bull immediately with the rifle 3 times.
Fred's buffalo had horns that spread 5 1/2' and swept back with 7" wide front hooves. His guide estimated the weight at 1,800#.
The guide insisted he had seen them bigger.

I agree...cool pic and story.
Anyone know what bow Fred was using?
If 1967, that was the first year of the all black phenolic Super Kodiak, but Fred's bow does not fit that description.
Someone said it was an early compound??? but I say NO.

It was his prototype takedown recurve. It isn't the same design as the Custom Kodiak that he chose for the takedown model. One of his videos showed the bow close-up and how it took down. He had several prototypes before he settled on the yoke and latch system of the Custom Kodiak.
