Sitka = great rain gear
«

Last week I spent a rainy day bowhunting and exploring a new (to me) area. Now, I haven't tried all the top-of-the-line rain gear, but Sitka rain gear is the best I've ever owned. It's light weight but tough. The material is stretchy and comfortable. When it wasn't raining I unzipped the arm pits and stayed dry inside. It's also quiet enough that I slipped up on a couple of deer in the rain. In my opinion Sitka rain gear is good stuff. Darryl

I love my Sitka Rain Gear too!, very functional and it fits me well. Most of my rain gear that I've used in the past were very noisey, bulky and non-ventilated.
I primarily hunt from the ground, so having clothing that's not bulky is a must! I've even used the 90% jacket in rainy weather without getting one bit wet. I'm definately sold on Sitka Gear.

I used the 90% jacket in a light rain elk hunting this year and got soaked from the inside out. I was not impressed with the breathability.

Kadbow,
I'm sorry to hear about your experience with the 90% jacket. Could you please epxlain to me either here or in a PM, more about your experience with the Sitka?
I'd like to help if possible.
Thanks, Peter Iacavazzi

I bought the Sitka Nimbus raingear this year and I'm also very impressed. Packs tiny, stretches, quiet (as raingear goes). Impressive stuff.

Peter, sent you a pm. I have to say I really like the fit of the 90% jacket, it is really cut nice for bowhunting, I was just dissappointed with breathability. That said, it is tough for anything to breathe in high humidity.

I'm waiting for someone from ALASKA to chime in saying they love the Sitka gear. I've been looking at their stuff but it had better do what it claims before I decide to take it out in this weather. I don't care about stretchy or light weight just water proof then breathable.

I too would like to hear some of those testimonials Ursus... I actually have heard some on the bowsite...but more are always better...
Kadbow..you are right, in high humidity...breathable is an oxymoron...its not going to happen..and same thing in Juneau Ursus. I hunted about 13 days this year with the 90% jacket on... I never had to endure rain or high humidity...and it was awesome. If it rained...i would have thrown on my Nimus jacket!
BTW...the Ascent pants are fantastic for warm weather hunting! (warm=45-75 degrees) :0)

Luke,
I got some two days ago. You wanna try it this weekend, let me know. You might have to gain five pounds real quick for it to fit right, lol. I'm goina give it heck around Petersburg in late November.

I used the raingear last year in November late blacktail hunt here in "rainy" Orygun. It worked flawlessly. If you do a lot of climbing and walking steep terrain you may sweat more than any raingear can handle. Some guys sweat more than others too. We all have a different internal thermastat. Evaporation can only go as fast in wet conditions. But in moderate terrain it worked great for me.

I have tried every 'waterproof/breathable' fabric known to man and they all fail under heavy exertion-some worse than others. GoreTex, Patagonia, or Cabelas, call them what you want-none live up to the claims made or implied by the marketing department.
If you spot and stalk, or do vigorous hiking over rough terrain you will get wet from the inside. The only thing that really works is wool-at least that has been my experience.
