Lord almighty, that's a BRUTE.  Did you have to see a chiropractor after dragging that beast out of the woods?  GREAT JOB!

Thats a great buck, Anaconda. Congratulations!

Most people don't realize GA's deer herd are descendents of MN, VA, and TX whitetails along with some of the mountain and barrier island native subspecies.

Our rut is reflective of that, peaking at different times from October through November and perhaps even later, depending on where you are.

I believe there are over 50 B&C entries from our state. Last year in metro Atlanta there were three deer over 170 taken with archery equipment in metro Atlanta alone.

Thanks DW I actually kind of have it made my best friend who does not hunt manages 5000 acres on the Flint River near a small town and he lets ME hunt so the competiton is rare although there are a two others hunting this year on a paid hunt but that is like a needle in a haystack and they are required to keep their distance from me as well, with their cannons.  So all in all it is a taylor made traditional archery property, but you still have to close the deal, the only possible downside and competition is from the cattle since it is a working cattle ranch, there is nothing more frustrating than have cows move in just before primetime and set up camp grazing under your tree.  (AAAAAARGH!)  that is why there are no food plots or anything can't possibly fence them all out , but I think I like it better that way, makes a fella hunt harder and smarter.

Great deer.  I am still waiting for the first deer to show up near one of my stand sites here in Maine.  What draw weight was your bow?  I am using Sttelite Broadheads with bleeders, which are essentially bear broadheads.  I have been wondering what type of penetration i would get with a 52# recurve.
The season gave him perfect mornings, hunter's moons and fields of freedom found only by walking them with a predator's stride.

maineiac, I was shooting a Thunderstick 3 longbow at 52 lbs. I shot him with a pine shaft and the total arrow wieght was 600 grains.  The arrow hit him high at entrance and drained him taking out lungs and heart and broke the off shoulder it never exited.  The ol' boy sprinted 35 yards and was dead in a matter of seconds, literally.  I have always shot HEAVY bows and arrow combinations but after a bout with a bad left shoulder I had to switch to a lighter bow and do not regret it at all having taken two deer with this setup this year with completely satisfying results, and besides that it is a joy to shoot, I had to really concentrate getting off the string cleanly when first switched but that did not take long to learn.  I feel confident your setup will work with the same results, good luck fellas and thanks for the kind words, I might just have to post some more here a good bunch of people to share experiences with!
