help, my savanna goes "twang"

I've got a martin stick that is very quiet. The only thing you hear is the fletching going across the rest and right away I can hear the arrow's fletching in flight. Pretty cool. Well the savanna goes "twang" and it bugs the hell out of me. I've got bowhush silencers 1/4 of the way in on both ends. I've tried different weighted arrows from 8 gpp to 12 gpp and the twang is the same. I've adjusted the brace height from 6 to 8 inches with every different weight of arrow tried. Now I'm out of ideas. I thought the heavier arrow would do it but no dice. Brace height, noc point, and bowhush worked for the stick. If that savanna doesn't behave, it's going in the closet for a time out. Help.

I have one that with a full quiver and some Muskrat silencers goes Thud...does still have a bit of southern twang in it though. I don't notice the twang when I shoot, just when I lightly pull the string and let it go...say 1/2" or so.

the bow I selfbow i made did the same thing, I believe it was because the brace height was to low, but I see adjusting it hasnt worked for you, only thing that comes to mind is that one of the limbs might be twisted?

Check tiller, if tiller is correct....Try a set of recurve limbsavers.

Sounds like you have checked the obvious things so all I can think of is how do your nocks fit? If they are snap nocks and they're tight, it will cause a twang.
You can either sand the bump out of the nock that snaps it on until it just has a little tension or try different a nock like a mercury speed nock or bohning classic. Those are glue ons, I don't know the brands for nocks that fit carbons so sandpaper would be the ticket there. If different nocks are unavailable, try a string that is skinnier and or served with finer thread.

I've come to believe that the keys to shooting well for me are good form, trusting the bow to do all the work, and having the confidence in the bow and myself to remain motionless and relaxed at release until the arrow hits the mark.

Oh yea, I'm not real up on the Martin models but if the Stick is a straight longbow or even just less of a reflex deflex than the Savanah it will be a somewhat slower bow and just naturally quieter. The Savanah is by all I've heard, quite a fast bow so there is more energy there but the different weight arrows should have made the difference in that case so I have to stand by my tight nock guess.

My Savannah also has more noise than I would like but it is a lot quieter than it was when I started.
I put my silencers at 1/4 and 1/3. The 1/4 at the top to give more clearance for my head and the 1/3 at the bottom. You get different harmonic frequencies that way and it seems to help.

Have you tried four string silencers?
If you have ever tuned a guitar you are most likely familiar with string harmonics. In a nutshell, the string can be vibrating in multiple spots. Try two up top and two below.
You will have more noise with a faster more modern style bow (all things being equal), but that doesn't mean you can't get it real, real quiet.

yeah I just wanted to add I shoot the stick because of how quiet it is.
I added a woolly mammoth tusk arrow rest to that tiny shelf. Works great and looks cool. Matches the wood really well. But even in comparison to my Bear Montana the montana with just a little def/ref is considerably louder.
If its not your nocks twanging or the brace height it might just be the bow design. Some limbsavers will help though.
But I put them on my stick too and its absurdly quiet. Like you said the arrow makes more noise than the bow.
My point is if you've been shootin the stick you might just have to get used to some noise. Other bows sound really loud by comparison.

NICE!
Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
Thanks you guys, it all helped. I put a B-50 on it, 4 silencers, and filed the nocks a little wider. Now it's down to a light thump. That's with the 9gpp arrows and I haven't messed with the brace height or nock point yet. With heavier arrows and a little tweaking should get a little better.

Savannahs are real nice, I miss mine. It used to shoot great with a 7 5/8 brace height and the nock set a bit higher than the standard 3/8 above level. B-50 makes all the difference I think.

I'm a little late on the bandwagon, but B50 string made a big difference for me. 2 Beaver fur silencers 15" from either end, and a 500+ arrow, and it is pretty quiet. Not as quiet as some of my other bows, but good enough.

That string that comes on it is the problem. I've heard bad things about those stock strings on a great bow. I've had two, and shot dacron on both. I willing to bet you can do much better in a FF string than that one.
