Bullets to increase FOC
« on: October 23, 2008, 01:25:00 PM »
Anybody know which bullets I can use for an exact fit inside of my axis shafts to increase FOC? And what weights of those I have to choose from.....

I've used them. 40 grains apiece, load as many as you need, and glue in place. If they're too loose, you can "bump them up" by squeezing in a vise. .243 rifle bullets work, too. Around 100 grains for those.

Is there anything that fits perfect without modification?

I believe the inside diameter of an Axis is .204,which would be closer to a 20 caliber. You have your 22 caliber guns which would be .223 diameter, alittle large.Their is a Sheridan pellet rifle which shoots a 20 caliber(5mm) pellet that may be a closer fit.You may find a brass rod at a hardware store you can cut and fit them inside to add weight. There is always the 100 gr. brass inserts, but any weight you add to the front end will change the tune of the arrow.A 243 bullet will work inside GT's,Vapors and ICS Beman, but would be to large for the Axis shaft.

You can also use air pelets (Cal.5,5(.22) and they fit in a axis 400 or 500 shaft, I use a .22 cleaning rod, put 5 min epoxy on it, push it down to the insert, a .22 cal wt. 40 gr

Lot of work for FOC. Why not use a 160gr STOS mounted on a 125gr steel insert for 285gr up front. Want more, then add a brass insert to shaft for another 100gr. Or just buy some 300 Xtreme's at 300gr each and your away to the races.

Maybe try some lead #4buck, T steel, or F steel shot?

You can probably "smash" the lead a far amount...good luck on the steel:D

The lead #4buck should weigh right at 20gr each..don't know about the steel
