big big rattlesnake
« on: October 27, 2008, 01:27:00 AM »
My Buddy Joey in Texas killed this snake last night - I've never seen one that big, nor has he nor anyone else in the family that lives on 1200 acres 60 miles west of San Antonio.

He said 19 rattles ... he didn't measure it but with that 32" wood shaft I'm saying that snake pushes 65" .... maybe 70" ?

I'd say in the 5-5.5 ft range for that one.  The biggest one I have caught down here had 24buttons and stretched across the road when I first saw it.  When I grabbed it by the tail, my hand would not close all the way around and she must have weighed about 30#.  Yup I'd say we got big'uns down here.

Have you noticed that the times you don't get nothing while hunting, are usually the most fun you've ever had.

Hang that monster off your porch on Halloween and I bet you get to eat all the candy yourself.

In 1970 when I was still in high school and living in Beeville, Texas, my brother and I killed one that was 6'6" long.

We were walking down a wide cattle trail when it stuck at us. Luckily it missed. I still think that we hold the record for the standing side-jump! My brother shot it in the head with a pellet gun, and I put a broadhead just behind the head.

We skinned it out and treated it with linseed oil. While I was off to college, my brother somehow talked our mother into sewing it onto blue felt. When I get a chance, I'll take a photo and post it.

You must have been in the Cache River Bottoms.  There are some monsters in there.  I miss the place.

I just came along this fella whilst out last week. It's a black head python. Bout 7 foot I'd guess. Left him where he was, in the sun.
