Man you just opened a hornets nest. I'm gonna take a shot in the dark and go with the DAS's.  Expensive!!  If you don't mind me asking is this just personal interest or do you have a reason your looking for more speed?

From what I hear the Borders are very fast but pricy. You will get as many answers to this as there are bows.  Be prepared.

The DAS isn't a bow. It's a riser that you can buy many different limbs for from other makers. What it does for speed depends on the limbs you buy and arrow weight.

Check out Blacky's reports and watch for a couple of new ones soon for the most accurate info.

I'm not much of a speed freak, but I am looking forward to all's opinions.

I guess I should refine this a bit and what would be a good all around performance bow for say $600 or less. I really like the looks of a Widow but have never shot one and I know they are more than this amount new. Lets see if that helps things out....lol    Of course I know performance will also depend on draw weight and arrow combination.

The RER Arroyo, Quinn Stallion, Black Mountain Obsisian/Sheepeater, Martin Hatfield, Bear Super K, etc etc. Lots of bows that will seal the deal in that price range and even more if you go used.

Don't forget the Pittsley Predator which was recently rated pretty highly by Blackie as I recall.  They come in two versions including a Hunter and a Classic with the Hunter being the same bow but with fewer frills and so costing fewer dollars. They are offered for sale on this site on occasion.

Blackie tests all bows at certain arrow weight to draw weight percentages,   (can't recall... is is 8 grains per lb of draw ?) so you are comparing apples to apples.

Alright, I'll bite.

Are Blacky's or Mullaney's test results published somewhere online all in one place?  All I can find are the results for "XYZ" bow on "XYZ" homepage.

Nobody's mentioned the A&H ACS-X bows yet?

A metal riser with ILF limbs will offer you more options. For a really fast arrow you can safely shoot 6gpp.They perform on par with other top bows at higher arrow weights but you can easily get different limbs without waiting on a custom order.

A new Quinn for under $300 new ain't pretty but is a solid fine shooting bow.

You can find a used Widow for around $600.They aren't the fastestor slowest but they have a lot of good all around shooting qualities and are well built.

I have a Bear K-mag now and it's pretty good.  Vermonster or anyone else in the know, will the S-mag accomodate a 29" draw. I'm 6'2" 230lbs and want a super mag but I'm worried about the draw length.

Ghost,

I hope you won't take this wrong cause I sure don't want to interfere with whatever you want to do.  BUT.....I would suggest that you find a bow the fits you and allows you to shoot with consistant form.  A fast bow is worthless if it is not comfortable to shot and you can't hit anything with it.

With that said you may want to look into any of the metal riser bows such as the DAS, Quinns etc.  If speed is all you are after these types of bows allow you to shoot really light arrows and thus shoot in excess of 200 fps.  Just a suggestion.

I think the Border is right up there with the HexV limbs-it's the one I would go for due to it's carbon/torsional stability (and if you still prefer wood risers as I do)!  :)  I think they are around $1100?

If that question was for me, it depends on how heavy the arrow was.  When I last shot through a chrono I was using an eight strand 8125 string w/hushpuppies shooting 600 grain GT trads and the reading I got was 191 on average of six shots.  The bow is 53@28 but more like 56 at my draw of 29".  Using lighter arrows, it was considerably faster.  Don't want you eating too much popcorn     :D   It'll spoil your supper.
