first time rabbit hunting - advice please
«

I just moved to NC and my new boss said he has some land that, last time he was there (2-3 years), had a lot of rabbits. It was logged about 20 years ago so no tall trees. He said there's just a lot of short cedars mostly. I bought a license and thought I'd give it a try. My wife is excited to cook it up so I'd better get something. How should I go about finding rabbits. Are there signs I should look for? A time of day that's best? I don't have dogs to hunt with. Any advice would be appreciated.

Cover the edges, look for "tunnels" through the grass and such. Rabbit pellets are almost perfectly round and about the size of a large pea.
Move slowly, and look closely. Most of the rabbits I have shot at and missed have been within a few feet. Bust some brush, cover some ground and you will be into bunnies before ya know it.

Just go and have fun. Bring lotsa arrows.
Walk slow and look a lot. Once you see one or two you will "get it" and more will be easier .

Aim for the head or at least the front shoulder, or else your arrows will be going for a ride.

slowly walk the edges. look for the black eye-you'll only see one, they make trails and if you can find one, follow it and watch ahead. Stop in thick cover and wait-they get nervous and run.
We hunt them every Sunday out here-what a blast!
