Bow Stacking
« on: March 03, 2007, 07:15:00 PM »
Put the bow on the scale today. Here are the results, was wondering is this amount of stacking normal?

Savannah longbow weight vs draw length

First inch........5  pounds
next 1-1/4 inch......10 pounds
next 2 inches.........15 pounds
2 inches........20 pounds
2-1/2...........25 pounds
2-1/2...........30 pounds
2-1/4...........35 pounds
2-1/2...........40 pounds
1-3/4...........45
1-1/2...........50
1...............53

53 pounds at 29 inches.

Looks pretty normal to me.  Bows in the 50 pound range usually increase about 2-3# per inch for the first inch or so past 28 inches.  Likewise, they decrease by about the same amount for the first inch or so under 28 inches.

You need to check stack with a force draw curve that shows every inch of draw.  Start at about 24 inches and go to 30.  Stacking is not a build-up of weight, it is an inordinate jump in that build-up at a certain point.

Here is an old 62" Wing Thunderbird that I checked...smooth as butter:

24"...36#
25"...38#
26"...41#
27"...44#
28"...47#
29"...50#
30"...53.5#
31"...58#
