archery headgear....

how many of you have a special archery hat?  you know, the fred bear style hat, etc...Is there any special reason these things are so wildly popular among traditional archers than the fact that its a tradition?  This is probably an irrelevant question but im curious     I have a 100% wool one from basspro and its pretty warm and comfortable...any input?

I've tried several hats, but the bill always seems to get in the way. Probably does'nt mess my shot up, but does mess with my concentration. Still lookin for a welders style hat I lost years ago. Have not found one like it though.

I wear a booney style hat when shooting/hunting. It has a very short soft bill and even though the string touches it I don't feel it.

I have several Stormy Kromers.  They now make one of duck back canvass.  Its alot cooler than the wool.

I love my "Original Jones" cap (treebark) I got when I was 14.  Twenty some odd years ago.  I cant find them anywhere anymore...

The reason the Fred Bear style hats are still popular is because they work well. The brim is wide enough to shade your eyes from the sun, even when it is at the sides, yet soft enough to bend when you draw.

The only problem I have is it can get too darn cold here in Iowa to wear that type of hat.

BTW: Matty, I found an Original Jones style hat made of fleece. I wear it when the weather won't allow my felt hat. Got it at Mills Fleet Farm, but I don't think you have them in CO. I'll check the brand and maybe you can find one.

Since moving to Idaho I have left a trail of hats everywhere I have hunted. If I overheat; the hat goes into a pocket; and somehow they jump out and take off- kind of like socks in the dryer.

 I like stormy Kromers for when its cold; and wear a 'Montana cowboy hat' ( ballcap) bassakwards when its warm out.

 I don't like my string to hit my hat when I draw back...

I wear a brown 40s style fedora or a Jones style hat.  Both I have to tilt up a bit when I shoot.

 I have one like Sarah's but it makes me look fat! (Just kidding). I wear a ski/skull cap type thing. I can't stand the string to hit the brim even a little.

My favorite is a "radar" style cap with a short brim. Keeps me warm, shades my eyes. No string interference.

In warmer weather I wear a camo do-rag when its cooler a camo watch cap.  A little black under the eyes really helps alot with glare from the sun.

I  wear camo fleece "beanies" when its cold amd a soft/floppy Boonie style hat when warmer. I've tried the regular boonies but my string always hits the stiffer brim and I can't shoot right. the floppy brim just crushes flat against my face.

I have a Fedora that I like to wear around camp and to shoots sometimes.  But for hunting my favorites are both by Gray Wolf Woolens (Sponsor).  A roll up boonie style in Wolfskin for when it's warm, and a wool bomber style for cold weather.  Between the two of them they cover every weather condition I hunt in.
