Recommended books to read?
«
on:
November 06, 2008, 04:28:00 PM »
After having a brain fart and going to the Darkside (wheelies) over the summer, I've decided to go back to trad all the way.
I'm looking for some good books/dvds to read and study to find out all I can about traditional bows and learn about proper form, setup, tuning, etc...
I have Byron Ferguson's Become the Arrow but can ya'll recommend any good reading material or instructional dvds.
Hopefully I can practice, practice, practice and read a bit too!
THANX

Not as informative as entertaining is "Ishi and Elvis" by Jim Hamm.

Masters of the Barebow I and II are awsome instructionals. Jay Kidwell's book is pretty good too. dino

I agree with Dino that Masters of the Barebow are very good.
However- there is a new book just out that is sure to become a classic about shooting arrows. Written by Anthony Camera, Shooting the Stickbow, a Classical approach to Archery is the most informative work I have had the pleasure to pick up. Anthony is a very respected archer who regularily chimes in on one of the other trad sites, and always gives helpful information freely. His own vast experience rings forth through his book. In respect to not posting links to other sites, cc me for the address where this book is available, or google the title.

You'll learn a fair bit from reading T.J. Conrads' book, "The Traditional Bowhunter's Handbook".

" A beginners guide to traditional archery" by Brian J Sorrells....lots of equipment, form, and practice basics that pretty much cover everything to choose, shoot, and properly maintain traditional archery equipment. If i'd have bought this book 3 years ago i wouldnt have had to fight target panic, overbowing myself, and bad form
