I used puff yarn silencers (my wife calls them "pom-poms" because they were so big) and to my ear they barely made the noise acceptable even after playing with brace height.  When I used beaver fur on the factory string it was too loud.  (The factory string is some kind of low-stretch stuff).

It didn't get it quiet as I like until I changed the factory string to one of B-50 dacron.  Now small beaver fur strips do the job well with a brace at 7".

Ronp, Do you like the feel of the bow when you release better with the dacron? Do you use flemish dacron or endless loop? thanks. c.h.

Still playing, but I switched to a B-50 Flemish also, and noticed a big difference. Mine is braced at 7 1/2".

I find hush puppies to be the best all around string silencer on the market. I have them on my recurves and longbows. They are durable(long lasting) and silence my bows as well as any I've tried. Besides that they are sold here on TradGang.  :clapper:

I know Ron will get back to you but he uses flemish that he makes. I'm not sure about the release but he shoots that bow and older bear bows and makes all his strings. They are nice too.

After a fair amount of expirimentation, my savannah is set to a brace of 6 1/4", FF string, and has a set of rubber cat wisker silencers 11 3/4" from where the string touches the limb tips.

Very quite for me.

Alan, I do make my own flemish twist strings now (learning how to do it, making the jig, etc. was fun in itself), and I do like the feel of the release better.  (Thanks for the kind Okie compliments Russ!)

It is a little subjective, but it just 'feels' better-I like the feel of the string under my fingers, probably because I used more strands than the factory string.  I do know that the string I made myself fits the nocks of my arrows better, and because the nock fits the string better, it releases from the string better.

To be honest, the Savannah shoots pretty well with the factory string also, but it was just too loud.

I got rid of the OE string and made up a padded loop 12 strand D97 and put on some cat whiskers, and it is pretty quiet.I set my brace at 6&3/4",recommended brace for a Savannah is 6&1/4" to 7".Whoolie puffs make good silencers also.

hush puppies, brace height at 7 3/8.  I've got 4 silencers on mine.
