I like 50#, my personal comfort zone with a bad shoulder. If it ever heals I'll jump up to 55 again.

I like 50# also. I had lyproscopic surgery on my right shoulder. I thought I was going to have to give shooting up due to that and arthritis but I have succeded in getting back in shape through physical therapy

50lb is about it as far as comfort zone anymore, more than enough anyway.

Big feral bull camels really enjoy 78lb @ 29" Black Widow longbows!
Plus, with the heavier weight, heavy arrows travel pretty fast and flat.

I know dead is dead, and that forty pounds is plenty for deer sized game, but I will shoot a bow in the seventy pound range as long as I am able.
It is not a macho thing, it is a confidence thing.
Rarely do I have a deer carry my arrow away. It is always there at the hit location for me to inspect.

My hunting bows range from 47#'s through 53#'s.
No other reasons other then its comfortable to shoot that weight and it meets the weight requirements in most places if I choose to travel to hunt.

All of my bows are between 55 and 58 # just because that is the most weight that I am comfortable with.

Almost all of my bows are 50 to 60 pounds with a couple a little less and a few around 70 pounds. Having had surgery on my right shoulder I prefer the lighter weight for most hunting, but on bigger animals I will go up in weight. For cape buffalo I expect to be shooting a bow of around 65 to 70 pounds, but for deer it will generally be a bow in the low 50's.

50# for moose and mountain goat. 45# for caribou, black bear and doll sheep. I have a 25# that's a hoot for grouse and marmots, and the 45# seems to be fond of waterfowl.

I've had Right Shoulder Deltoid re-attached 2 yrs ago and rotor cuff surgery on the Left one last year. It has taken a lot of work but I'm now shooting with bows between 53# & 60# but I shoot 55# & 56# mostly. They are very comfortable for me now. Besides they are my Shrew and Griffin and I naturally gravitate towards them.

I'm old and heavy bows hurt. 45#-55# are just fine.
I currently shoot #54.
