Paul Schafer's Shooting Technique
« on: March 04, 2007, 12:30:00 PM »
Hi. I just recived info on Paul's shooting technique from Paul Brunner and Mike Windauer of Schafer Silvertip bows. They says Paul was a gap shooter. He did not use the point of the arrow as a reference but was aware of it in his peripheral vision. He would draw past his anchor then settle back in. He canted the bow slightly. He used a glove shot off an elevated rest, and used four fletched aluminum arrows. Dave says he used a plastic Jennings rest which he modified slightly when tuning. He used zwickey 4-blades execpt when Buffalo hunting then he used 2 blades. Paul states he practiced from 4 to 100 yds to teach his brain arrow trajectories. He used a swing draw on moving game and a set arm draw on stationary game. You can see some of this on the Buffalo video on tradgang. The book about Paul thats in the works covers all this. Thanks again to Paul and Dave for the info.

I know that in The Best Of TBM, Gene Wensel states how Paul used longer-than-required arrows, because when drawing his bow, he would draw the arrow slightly past his anchor, and then settle back to it. Pretty neat...

Dave's father is writing the book.  He expects it to be out with in the year.  I said his name is Mike but I was corrected, it's Bob. I also called Dave Mike at the begining of the original post.  Must be getting senile.  My apologies to the Windauers.
