No, you can't eat it.
« on: March 04, 2007, 01:15:00 PM »
That's what he said. Swearta God.

I got a cryptic tease of a PM from a fella who is very well known here onsite, Danny Rowan. He said to watch out for a package from Guam. I'm sorry, but every time I hear the name "Guam," I think of bats and their byproducts. Now the connection was cemented forever, as here out of the blue, I was to receive something which I did not (depending...maybe I did) deserve. The man is bats.

I asked him, "What did you do, address it to Killdeer, Fibber McGee's Closet, VA?  Who blabbed? " He quickly responded with some boilerplate crack about doing all the address checks for Guido's Federal Payback and Repo Service.
After a moment of silence, I asked him if it was edible, and he promptly dashed my hopes.

"No, you can't eat it."

So, here I sat, expecting a banana spider, portuguese man o' war, guano, or some such. I didn't think he would send me a bat.
Does anybody see the spider?   :bigsmyl:

Doug Campbell neck knife, mammoth tooth scales, and 4 Jim Miller points. WOW!

Me neither.
Thank You Danny!

Yes, that is mammoth tooth. A very new and ancient knife! When I come home from work, I take off the ball and chain (Badge), and put on the knife...feels like freedom!

No, I have no particulars from Danny on the points, except that they were knapped by Jim Miller, from whom I have bought many points. Now I know who was bidding against me!

I hesitate to classify any of them, knowing that Knifey is lurking in the wings, but it looks as if one is mookaite, the big white one looks like novaculite, and one maybe Maury jasper. The solid pink one is a mystery, it is somewhat grainy. Maybe I will email Jim for a final decision.

I have seen Danny go and do this stuff here and there, he has a big heart and spreads a lot of happiness throughout the world. Who'da thunk it would land here, though? As I told him, life has been a little rough in this here closet, and his kindness was like a cool drink of sweet water in the middle of a marathon.

This site is awesome, and since the eighties I have scrupulously avoided that term. When the word comes from me, it comes from an earlier time, when the term still held the weight of its real, original meaning.

Aw heck, I did not do nothin'. Just like to put smiles on faces.

Killy, you hit it on the white and the mookite I think, the other two I am not sure, I failed to write down the particulars on them. I think the pink one is some type of chert but with the grain am not sure, the white and brown is a flint I believe.

By the way your pictures are fantastic.

You are more than welcome.

I love the shape of that knife, the handle is spectacular to say the least. Those are fine looking points also your very fortunate to get gifts like that.
