Veterans Day
« on: November 11, 2008, 07:33:00 AM »
I grew up on Army posts, and when I was about 8 years old, my Master Sergeant dad got me a fiberglass longbow, pulling about 20 pounds at my draw. Lots of lizards and birds caught hell on the desert of Ft. Bliss, and I occasionally scared a west Texas jackrabbit with it. This was my start in 'traditional' bowhunting, which was just bowhunting back then.
I had a 4 year hiatus in the 'Green Machine', but right after getting out of the Army I got a Bear Grizzly, which was the demise of some rabbits, an armadillo or two, and no deer.
What does this traditional bowhunting thread have to do with Veterans Day? My dad, a career soldier and combat vet of WW2, got me started with traditional archery.
To all our veterans and particularly those on this forum, have a great Veterans Day, and thank you for your service to this great country.

Navy brat here...   :D
My father served in the Tonkin Gulf, my grandfather in Italy in the First WW. I may not know the full story of the sacrifices and hardships endured in the theaters, but know what the families go through as they wait. God bless our service men and women, and bless their families, and give them strength as they serve too.

We owe all of what we have in our lives to our veterans, and I send my heartfelt thanks.

I learned to shoot with a recurve bought in a PX on an Air Force base in Missouri.

I am proud to have served. To everyone who has served and to everyone who sacrificed when a family member served - Thank you.

The 4th verse of the National Anthem is the one that has always meant the most to me:

Oh! thus be it ever, when freemen shall stand
Between their loved home and the war's Desolation!
Blest with victory and peace, may the heav'n rescued land
Praise the Power that hath made and preserved us a nation.
Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just,
And this be our motto:
"In God is our trust."
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.

I'm a proud Veteran of the "unpopular" War in Viet Nam; 1970/71.  Glad I served my Country and my American Family. My late Dad served with the 3rd Armored Division throughout Europe during WWII.  With the stories he told it was a miracle he survived at all.  May God allow him rest and peace throughout eternity.

"Thank You" to all who have served and sacrificed so much for this great country.  I pray for our troops and their families and ask God to bless, protect and keep them from harms way.  May they be allowed to return home soon and in perfect health.  God Bless you all.

Most of you know, or are aware, of this ol' Retired Marine's feeling's about our military servicemen and their families in all branchs and capacity/status. For those that do not know, I not only bless them all (continually) but also bless the hearts of those who offer their thanks to them/us in threads like this. You can only imagine how very, very much these sentiments mean to so very many of our brave countrymen and women.

Bless you all,. bless us all.

Thank you vets from a first-generation immigrant of the Vietnam war.  This country is great because of men/women who have not only protected this country but gone abroad to protect the world.  I have been blessed by your service.  May our Lord God protect and provide for you abundantly as you have done for me and my family.
For those of you who are currently serving, be safe.

I just received a thank you in return from a vet and felt the need to add that we should thank a vet every chance we get.  I personally have a connection and very aware of the sacrifice of our veterans and their value to the world.  If you see them wearing their hat or a jacket say hi and thank-you when you're in the store/restaurant or at a garage sale as they are reaching for the same bow your eyeing.  BTW, if you're ever rolling down the road (w/vet/military sticker on your vehicle) and see an asian giving you a thumbs-up, it's just me thanking you!
