Squirrel Question

So I shot a squirrel over the weekend and used the skinning technique that I saw the video for on here and it worked like a charm.

But when I soaked it in the salt water it got little black dots all of the meat?  What is this and why does it do it?  Should you eat it when it is like this?

Hmmmmm not sure what those are, sounds like a parasite working it's way out. Do squirrels get "ick" like fish do,LOL!

ive been doing that for years and nver swa black spots, just some leftover hair that i pick off, not sure what it is.

No I don't have a pic.  I thought that maybe that is why you are supposed to soak them in salt water to kill anything in the meat.  It seams like maybe this little guy did have some sort of parasite.  I decided not to eat it and put it out for the birds.  It was gone in about 8 hours.

smart move. Not like it was a full deer or anything. better safe than sorry.

Never seen such. I use the salt water to "clean up" the meat. Does wonders on the bloodshot stuff.

Every once in a great while a critter will develop peteachei from the blunt force of being hit with a blunt. Peteachei are burst capillary within the tissue and almost always limited to the area around the impact site and directly opposite the hit.

However squirrels are rodents and subject to a wide range of parasites. One of the rules I've always followed is don't eat rodents in months without a "r" in them. In other word when it's consistantly warm out.
