New To Me Massie M Recurve
« on: November 19, 2008, 10:40:00 PM »
I picked up a new to me Massie Recurve yesterday.  The bow was owned originally by Joe Marrier (joe vt) and then by Doug Key.  I bought the bow from Doug.  It is a very quiet, very quick and sweet shooting bow.  The craftsmanship is phenomenal.  The bow looks like new and it is 4 years old.

Below are a couple of pics I took:

The bow is 60", 49#@28", Cocobolo riser with dual swoops and actionboo limbs.

Beautiful bows, I reviewed one a while back.

They are amazingly fast for lighter draw recurves. I believe they are still being made - at least the one piece - by Belcher who bought out Jeff.

Pete,

No, it's not for sale.  I've been put on a "...no more hunting equipment restriction..." by my wife.  I'm glad I snuck this one in the door before she drew the line.  If I can't buy anymore, I've got to hold onto this one, the Dale Dye T/D that droptine59 is reducing the draw weight on for me, and the Marriah Thermal I have on order with Ric.  hehe     ;)      :)      :D

The bow is sneaky fast.  And that is with the B50 string it presently has on it.  I will be ordering a pair of Bobby Graham's G-Strings in TS+ for it.  I love that string material!

Bill,

Sweet bow for sure!  With Dacron is was one of the quietest recurves I ever shot!!

It liked 2016's, Beman 500's, and CE 150's

And it liked Wyoming too!!

Joe,

Thanks!  I think I have some Beman 500s somewhere in one of my stashes of arrows.  I'll have to look and see.  I would like to be able to use the Slick Tricks 125 gr broadheads I have on hand.  I think I may also have some CE Terminator Select 4560s, too.

By the way, the bow came with a set of real nice antler bolts by sticshooter and Shell.  They do some mighty fine work!

It is such a shame Massie had to go back to being a contractor to feed his family the bows he built were terrific!
You are lucky indeed-and just my weight too!!

Bjorn,

In a couple weeks or so I'll be receiving my Dale Dye with its draw weight reduced to 49# and then when Ric Anderson finishes my Thermal, it will be in the 46-50# range.  I'm hoping it will come out at 49#!

I took the bow to the Archery Shop and shot it today.  The only FF type material string I had on hand was some new 450+ strings that LBR had built for me.  I put one of them on the bow and had it set up for 3-fingers under and some silencers added.  The bow shot just as quiet as it did when I shot it earlier in the week with the B50 string that came with it.  Of course, I was shooting 586-590 gr wood arrows instead of lightweight carbon arrows I shot when I picked the bow up.  The bow still shoots the heavier wood arrows quicker than my old eyes can follow.  It is a sweet shooting bow.
