Any of you ever use felt/cork/rubber pads under the limbs of a 3 piece bow to help quiet it down? I've got a hybrid longbow that I thought was pretty quiet, until I shot it next to a buddy's Pronghorn.
Was getting too much "twang" but seemed more like limb noise/vibration than string... Might be some string slap associated with it too (fairly pronounced r/d limb design). I noticed that even with the limb bolts tighter than I would normally torque them, I could see a little gap between the limb butt and the riser pads. Maybe between 1/64" and 1/32".
I cut some felt material from an old Christmas mat, trimmed it to the limb pad shape, and cut holes for the bolt and alignment pins. Seemed to help a little, but I still wasn't satisfied. Bow Hushed the string, but it's dark and C-C-Coooold outside now, so I guess I'll wait until tomorrow to check how much effect that has.
The bow is probably quiet enough to suit a lot of people, but I want it as quiet as that dad-gummed Pronghorn!!!
I recalled seeing that a lot of Bob Morrison's "in-stock" riser pictures have what appear to be cork pads on them. I've often wondered if they are set up to shoot that way, or if they're just there to protect the area until the limbs are attached.
