I did 2 weekends ago in Illinois....It was 35 with 15-18 mph winds....absolutely the ticket...My buddies had to talk me into it at first....2 of them killed 140 inch bucks using them..I unzipped on 2 does and a 6 pt. to see if i could pull it off..no problem.....I own one now....

I have had one for about 7 years and have used it in conditions down to -10 deg.  It works great, really extending those cold weather hunts far beyond the time I could handle with normal cold weather clothing.  When it gets extremely cold, I drop a couple of those heater packs in the suit and I am toasty warm.  My circulation in my feet isn't that great, so my feet usually go pretty quickly, the suit has virtually eliminated that problem.

I have never been busted by unzipping the suit, and with strap system it uses, the suit is pulled behind you,out of the way.  They are kinda spendy, but it is the best solution I have found.

Rick,  No, it is like a sleeping bag with legs. Your body heat is contained in a single unit.  When I bought mine they had a web site, don't know if they still do.

Here's a link to their site.....
 http://www.heaterbodysuit.com/

I've had one for a few years now.  I don't understand why everyone who hunts in the cold doesn't have one.  They work great.  Like said above, throw in a couple of those heat packets and your toasty.    :campfire:

Brian, Twenty or thirty years ago I used a regular sleeping bag and I thought it worked pretty well. I would unzip it and let it slide down and had no trouble at all drawing and shooting on deer.  Ben

I made one last year it's a little different design.  Mine is basically a super large "skidoo suit" made of multiple layers of fleece and other insulating and or reflective material.  I can walk in mine and I have arm holes to reach out of to shoot my bow.  I made matching booties for over my boots and they are truly warm, especially with a handwarmer dropped in each one.

The heater suit must be really warm but I can't for the life of me understand using something that you have to remove to shoot.  As well if you get out of it to shoot you might very well have it off for an extended period of time.  How many of us have had animals fooling around but not presenting a shot for awhile, in that case a person would get cold fast.

Thanks guys.  I might have to look into one of those.  I thought about a sleeping bag.  Might see if I can find a camo one and experiment.

Anyone have one they want to part with?

Has anyone used a divers suit before? Why wouldn't one work?

Brian, The one I used was an old army bag and it was drab green and was cloth not the slick nylon fabric so it was quiet.  Ben

Brian let me know how the sleeping bag works. I'm about ready to hang up the hunting bow.  It's becoming more like work than fun.  My medication pacemaker and stroke makes the cold almost unbearable.  Kind of taking my drive away.  Sitting in a treestand is really tough.

Tater John... I think I read somewhere that the diver's suit was tried, but that the helmet had a negative affect on the anchor point.

John will do.  My dad talked about a West German army bag that had an opening in the bottom.  I guess so they could wake up and run or use it as a Heater Body Suit.  That was a few years back in a surplus magazine. He didn't know if you could still find them.

Hmmm, hadn't considered the helmet or lens fog. Its nice we have you salty dogs here, you save us from waisting time and money at the army surplus.     OK, more along the lines of a wind surfers suit? Nobody has tried one?

I have hunted on many a cold day and got cold regardless of how I layered or what material I used - except with the heater body suit.  It works for  those long cold sits.  A week ago I sat from sun up to sun down in 10 degree weather.  You will stay warm.  Heck they guarantee it for a full refund if you don't like it.

Just do some pactice putting it on.  It seems goofy but once you get used to it, it is just as straight forward as the video on their website.

You will also shoot better with warmer muscles and less clothing on (when you go to shoot).
