Well, for such an old deer I would have liked to have some extra mass.  The tine length was nice, though.

Got done working another 30 hour shift late friday morning and went in the basement for some shooting.  Decided that since it is getting dark so early that I would be able to get a hunt in and still catch up on sleep.  Got cleaned up and headed over to my spot.  Got there around 2:30 and kicked four deer out of the thin strip of woods to my left and a couple more out of the back of the field that I was walking through.  With the wind out of the NW, I knew I didn't want to go deep in the woods, so I set up on the edge of the field facing into the woods with the wind in my face.  There wasn't much in the line of trees with cover, but I found one adjacent to a tree still holding some leaves and got up pretty high.  Sitting by 3:00, then at 3:30 a doe comes running in and stops behind some cover about 15 yards out.  Slowy she comes out from cover and gives a broadside shot.  Just starting to pull the string back and I faintly hear a grunt through the wind.

He came in, head low, and the doe took off.  He was coming straight at me and I figured he would turn off and chase the doe, likely  giving me no shot through the cover.  Instead he kept coming at me and stopped at a small scrape around 10 yards out facing me.  Amazingly he cooperated and turned to just ever-so-slightly quartering toward me.  I released and hit him where I wanted, in the crease and a little high due to the angle of the shot.  Penetrated up to the fletching.  He ran around the rim of a gully about 70 yard and wobbled a bit before he fell.  He slid halfway down the gully, kicking on the way down.  Saw the whole thing from my stand.  Stopped kicking within 30 seconds of shot.  Still had plenty of daylight to gut and drag to the car, but had to wait to get to a friends house to take a picture.  Gotta say he looked bigger in person than on the photo.
