Arrow Tuning for 43# bow
« on: November 24, 2008, 05:57:00 PM »
I have a 43# Browning Nomad Stalker that I love.  I am going to move to carbon arrows over the winter since I do not have a set arrow for this bow yet.

I have Gold Tip 33/55 traditional wood that I will be using with 125 grain tips.  My questions are the following.

I'm thinking of putting a 50 grain brass insert to get my point weight up to 175 grains.

I would like to add a 2 grain per inch weight tub to the arrow to add additional weight to the arrow.  I'm think of trying to hit the 10 grains per pound for total weight.

I will bare shaft tune the arrow for the bow, but what does everyone think of my planned set up?  To much or not enough point weight, to much or not enough arrow weight.

This was my first season with traditional gear and I am hooked.

Thanks for you input in advance.

I think you might want to try more point wt. to get the total arrow wt up there.

id bump to 100 grain inserts....what length arrow are you shooting...i'd say youll need 250 up front if you are shooting a 29-30" arrow...maybe less if your shooting a full length shaft.

I would like to end up around 29.5 depending on how the arrows tune.  I have no problem uping my point weight.

Just looking for advice were to start.

I shoot full length 35/55's with 125gr points and a 50gr adder weight on the back of the standard GT insert (~15gr).  They fly great out of my 43# GM.  100gr inserts worked well when I cut a few shafts down to 29" (too short for my riser I found out later...).

I've also stuffed a few with weedwacker line to get the total arrow weight up, didn't effect the flight at all, but really got the weight up.  I'm still playing around with them.

I use 3555 gold tips cut to 29 inches with a 45# bow.  Something I noticed when I put 200 grains up front, total weight is 443 and trajectory is nice out to 25 yards.  When I put 250 grains up front, total weight of 493, trajectory changes alot.  I don't like shooting that out to 25 yards but it's no problem out to 20 yards.  I see a big penetration advantage with the 100 grain inserts and staying away from the 25 yard line.  Must be nice FOC because I have other arrows that weigh in at 517 that have a flatter trajectory.

That 35-55 with 125gr point full length is 420-425gr
