My dad grew up in Ladysmith. I remember him telling me the tale of Art Williams. I have looked for his bows, but they are almost harder to find than a choctaw recurve. If I remeber correctly he was quite fond of green glass. The legacy of Art however is not that of his bowyer skill, but rather his dealings in the cocaine trade, and ultimatly his mysterious disaperance. The victoria Times Colonist had an article on him following his disapperance, but I am unable to locate it on their website. He vanished following a plane crash while running from the law. However there is heavy speculation that he did not actually perish in the crash as he was a talented pilot adn former paratrooper. Wish I was a little more knowledgable on the subject, should ask my dad to re-tell the tale again.
You are only the second person I have known to mention his name. The other was a sporting goods store owner who grew up on the island as well.
