Help me choose Wood for new bow.
« on: November 25, 2008, 11:32:00 PM »
Got a RER LXR on order and want some suggestions on wood type to have Kevin use.
Am thinking Earth tones so I'm thinking some nice dark figured Zirocote for the riser, and some nice Yellow/Gold colored Olive Ash Burl Vaneers.  Want a third wood type for a acsent arch in the riser. Want something that will contrast with the darker Ziricote, thoughts were either Bocote or Zebrawood. Want something that has some nice figure in it and will go well with the Ziricote and Olive.
Any other suggestions, before I change my mind again;)

Sounds like you've been looking at pics of Joe VT's LXR  ;)   That is a beautiful bow for sure!

I like the sound of your ideas, and think they would look great.  Personally, I am kind of partial toward osage as a nice contrasting wood.  Seems like that might make a good looking combo, especially once it starts to age and mellow to a nice golden color.

Whatever you decide, you are going to love that bow!

The Marriah Thermal I have on order with Ric Anderson will have Macassar Ebony in the riser on the back and belly with a stripe of Bocote and accenting as Ric deems appropriate.  The limbs will be Yew, once again with accenting as Ric deems appropriate.  I leave the accenting to his artisanship and talent as a bowyer.

The exotic woods on this site is my "go to" page when I have a bowyer build me a bow. I pick out what I like and have the bowyer use the woods I want.
