New Widow - long draw - carbon question

I recently purchased a Black Widow PSA 60"45#@28 that I draw 30"(~51lb) and have noticed that it needs a much stiffer carbon spine. I have some mfx classic 400's(31" long 225gr up front) that bare shaft perfectly when I shoot a B-50 string but when I switch to my D-97 string, they fly almost sideways(weak). Now I am considering some 340 spine carbons, which I would have thought were way too stiff, but after seeing the 400's fly so weak, I am reconsidering. I know I will have to try them myself to know for sure, but was wondering if any of you have shot the 340's from a similar setup?

No experience with the  MFX classics.

I shoot 50#'s @ 29" on all my Widders.  I shoot Carbon Express 250's cut to 30 and 1/2 inches or Gold Tip 55/75's cut to 30 inches, both with a 125 gr. head.

Thanks Otto, I think the CX 250's are spined about .360 so with an extra inch of arrow and draw length, maybe the 340's will be close. I still would like to shoot 225 up front.

Why don´t you cut off that one inch?
Might be stff enough then.

Or leave the 340s a bit longer.

I´ve got a Bob Lee TD Recurve that´s got 49lb @ 32". I can shoot the 340s and the 400s eath with 100gn at front. The bow isn´t so picky.

pseman, you could use those 400's if you build up the side plate a little.  The Widow is cut 3/16" past center, if you bring it close to center you'll stiffen those arrows up some.  Or you could go to the 340's starting long and tune them up, if you want to buy new arrows...Mike

BTW, I was shooting 400's out of mine (53#@30") but was only using 125 grains up front cut to 31".

I hear ya mooseman, but I shoot a Bear Weather rest on the bow so I have already built the sideplate out somewhat.

As far as cutting off the arrows, I could, but I like a little overhang on them. Besides, the 400's shoot perfectly with my B-50 string which I am now using, but I have to think I am losing significant speed if the D-97 makes that much difference in spine.

I think I will give the 340's a try. It should be easy to get my total arrow weight between 500-550gr with 225gr up front. Hopefully they will bareshaft well at around 31".

I have a Widow MA 51@30 and I shoot D97, 5575 Gold Tip Traditional XT's 31" with 125gr Magnus Stingers. Bare shaft like darts and group with my fletched arrows out to 40 yards. Total weight comes in at 452gr. A little lighter than what you're after.

Yellow Dog, what is the spine on those Gold Tips?

Gold Tips website lists them as .400" deflection. Longer draw really bumps you up in spine.
