Tab.....or Glove??
« on: November 28, 2008, 04:15:00 PM »
I have read many times that the tab gives a much better release than a glove. I have used a glove for five years now. I have tried a tab a few times but I shoot three under and I have only tried with a split tab that I could find at a local Archery shop. I have been thinking of giving a three under tab a serious go-round.

I am curious what the rest of you guys use. Tab or glove and what kind.

I have used a Damascus glove now for three years, just so you know.

I shoot split and have always used a calfhair tab with a finger separator.Gave a glove a try a couple times but just didn't feel right to me.
Buddy of mine(Tdog on here)can shoot glove, tab, even leather work glove and shoots very well with any of them.

Grizzly Damascus Super Glove with Cordura finger tips. I shoot split fingered. Love the glove, but Grizzly got someone new to make it and now the finger sleeves are too big around for my fingers. The old ones were perfect.

I have two old Fred Bear gloves that I like very much. They are single seam gloves with closed ends. I guard them closely, because I have not seen one for sale in quite a while. I have no idea what I will use when I wear these out. They are great.

I shoot 3-under and a tab never felt right. I'm useing one of the Grizzly gloves with the cordura finger tips and I love it.

Duraglove, but I have a couple of tabs I am experimenting with. So far, I'm still a glove shooter.

I use a damascus glove, have tried a tab.  I just decided  I like the simplicity of the glove.  I have only shot Tradional for a couple of years.

I shoot 3 under with a tab. I went to a Leather shop got a piece of scrap leather for like $6.00 and cut about 9 tabs out of it. I trimmed here and there to find the shape that works best and cut the rest from there. I'm set on tabs for a few years!

I started out using a glove only. After practicing a few times with a tab I now shoot with one from time to time. I've also been known to shoot bare fingers as well..but not for very long.   :archer:
I reckon so

Started shooting with a glove years ago.  Switched to a tab about 2 years into shooting a recurve.  That was 11 years ago.  Haven't got back to the glove.

Glove 90% of the time for 3-under and split-finger shooting, although my shooting doesn't change much when using a tab. Just perfer the feel of a glove.

Started with a tab, went to a glove but got finger groves and a callous really fast.  Went back to tab last weekend and MUCH better release!

I also have made tabs from a number of materials. I find that the softer the material the better. Sometimes a nice thin vinyl is very good, like from a boot liner. Lots of feel, very slick release.

OK> So someone told me that the gloves cut or groove the strings. Anyone have that experience?

Glove for me. I shoot an Alaskan Skookum glove but my next glove will be a cordovan tipped glove. I tried a tab for a couple months but just keep going back to the glove. It just feels right to me.

I have to agree with predator1. I think it may depend on whether you sit in a tree or move. I found if i am stalking/moving i go very instinctive and a glove is the only way to go. I want it on all the time where a tab bugs me. I don't want to think about having a tab in the right position. Great for the range but I change (mentally and phisically)when i hunt.So i realize what i am like when i hunt and accomodate my nature. Alaskan Superglove for me.
