Kids bows
« on: December 02, 2008, 11:12:00 PM »
Hey Gang,
I'm thinking about making bows for my nephews as Christmas presents.  One of the boys is 6 and the other will soon be 4.  What do you guys think as far as a draw length, bow length, and poundage for the rugrats?  Cheers, Matt

As a guideline for me, I make 36" bows for draw lengths 15-16" max.  I have also used 42" bows for draw lengths up to 18-19".  Regarding draw weight, personally, for the avg. sized 4 and 6 yr old, I would start at about 5-7# for the 4 yr old and maybe 10-13# for the six yr old.  BTW, these are the specs I use for glass bows.

I don't really know.  I'm never much in a hurry so I'd guess between 1 and 8 hours.

Matt,

I made a bunch of Youth bows a few years ago that ranged from 14# to #37 and draw lengths from 12-24".  Here is a link to some good info on youth bows.
