How many hushpuppies?
«
on:
December 03, 2008, 03:55:00 PM »
I recently took the old silencers (looked like beaverballs maybe?) and the brush buttons off of my SAIII. There were actually two silencers per end before I changed stuff out. Thought that was maybe a little excessive. I applied bow hush and one hushpuppy at each end. The bow is noticeable louder. Should I play with positioning or put another hushpuppy on each side? I don't want to drag the string down too much!
Thanks in advance,
Dave

Wow,
Just got off of the phone with Terry. What service!! Asked me to call him when he saw I was having problems with the product.
He gave me some advice on placement (1/3 point). I was thinking they were a little too close to the limb tips. Also, I had increased my brace height with a couple twists, so I'm going to take those out and see if things get better. Keep ya posted.

there are a number of things that make a difference in how quiet a bow is...design, braceheight, string material, arrow weight, even how you grip your bow...etc..... bow hush and hush puppies are the cats meow when it comes to string silencers....great product that quiets the string right down and looks great.

I agree with JS.... There are many things that could be causing the noise with your set up. This is what I did to eliminate my problem.
I changed my string and made sure my brace height was at it's highest point. I added one set of puffs.(the more your hang on your bow string the more drag you have on the arrow which will then effect flight and speed). Another noise maker is plucking the string. If your release isn't right and you don't go straight back after release with your string hand, you'll have noise.
Hope the info helps.

I moved the puppies down to the 1/3 point and that seemed to help some. Now I need to shoot them in a little more to see if it gets quieter. I brought my brace height back down to where I started. I'll add a little more later in half-twist increments to try and find the sweet spot.
Thanks again for all the input folks!

I set my PSA up with the puppies too. Worked very well. I would encourage you to really play with the brace height. Mine shoots shot best for me at about 8 inch brace which was below the recommended. But I have a 27 inch draw too. I also noticed if I had the limb bolts to tight the bow was louder. The hush puppies work well regardless and are much better than anything else I've tried.

On recurves I use Bowhush and Hush Puppies with felt pads on the recuve. Longbows - I just use the Hush Puppies.I locate the Hush Puppies at 25% of string contact length from each limb tip. My recurve is quiet!!Longbow are too!Just keep 'em away from stick-tites!
