CE Arrow Selection Suggestions and Guidance

Searching for advice on CE arrow set-up that will put me between 10 and 10.5 grains per pound with high FOC.


Set—up:   BD Ultra w/Hex V limbs
      55# at 28” (actually draw 28”)
Note: Hex V limbs shoot equivalent to conventional limbs that may be
          5 plus pounds heavier
BH- screw-in WW 150g (possibly 125g)


Have reviewed numerous postings of Heritage CE 250 set-ups for bows ranging from 50 to 60 pounds.  My theoretical set-up with Heritage CE 250 and 200g up front would put me over 600g’s and possibly over 11 grains per pound. This set-up would be good, yet is marginal in relation with my desire. If I decided to shoot over 600 grains, then I would prefer more FOC weight.

For my dreamed-up ideal, I envision a 10 to 10.5 grain/lb (~550 -578 g) set-up with high FOC.

Please provide any suggestions for a CE arrow set-up that would be applicable while still using a screw-in 125 to 150g BH.

Hey Friend! I have the same setup in a 55#@28 recurve (Blacktail-cut to center). I shoot the CE250s cut to 29.25" w/ 100gr brass inserts and 125gr. tips. They bareshaft real well. They come in at 600grs. with three 5" shield cut. I love the combo. I have not tried more weight upfront because these shoot so well and I like the length of the arrow.  For hunting I use 75gr steel adaptors and 145 glue-on heads with a standard insert.

Thank you for the reply Snag. I had recorded some of your specs from another post. I may infact end up using the Heritage CE250, However I was trying to locate options that had your type of front load,yet put me in the 10 to 10.5 grain/lb range. Just putting out feelers to find out what other CE options are out there.

Ce 250 MAXIMA 100grn insert150 to 200 grn head will put you in the ball park of foc, gpp and total weight.

A good head to get is the Razorcap, about the same as the WW but SS and adjustable weights from 125,150,175 and 200grn

I shoot CE Heritage 150s cut 29 bop with 160 grain broadheads and 42 gr. adapters. They weigh out at 545 grains. You could get the 10 gr. per lb. but not the heavy foc.

I appreciate the feed back. Please keep the options coming. My bow is to tentively to arrive within the next three weeks. I would like to have a good plan for some possible CE set-ups. I am also cognizant to the fact some trial and errors may be forth coming.

From all the information gathered thus far, a bow 55# to up to 60#'s w/200 up front should bare shaft well using the CE250 at 30".
The Maxima Hunter 250 has spine of .417 vs .373 for the Heritage 250. The Maxima hunter 250 interest me, however I was thinking that the Maxima 350 with 250 up front and a 31" arrow may possibly work. The bow I will be shooting should be equivelent to a 62# widow at 28". Still can only speculate until I try. Thank you for your suggestion. I could end up exactly as you suggested. My goal is not to exceed 11.0 grains per pound by much and to attain extreme FOC.

I shoot about 56 to 57# at 30" ACS/CX.
Arrow is Maxima 350 32" 50 grain brass insert, 175 grain point, total arrow weight at 520 for just over 9 gpp at 9.3

The plain Maxima is
250...  .404
350...  .345

and is the strightest and most spine consistant 360* around i have found in the 100$ or less catagory. I have found a place i can pick up these shafts for 103$ a dozen

My widow PSA V 53# @ 30" will shoot the same arrow Maxima 350 32" with a 100 grain brass insert and 200 grain point up front.  It does like the 250 with 50 g insert and 150 point better.

With the few grains extra the camo gives you per inch just may get you to 10 grains per inch.

O just a note incase you dont know these carbons react quickly to lenght ajustment and slowly to point weight adjustment so i would start full lenght and cut only a 1/4" at a time when you get close adjust point weight 25 to 50 grains at a time

If you want a less costly solution than the Maximas (which are great shafts), go with either Terminator Lites or Rebel Lites, with about 225 to 250 up front you will be right around 10 grains per pound.  You will probably need the 4565s cut to 28 - 29 or so out of a 55 lb bow. You might have to go stiffer if the Border limbs are all that.

Thank you for the input. I was aware that due to the Fwd Wt Tech used for the CE Maxima's, that I would have to be cautious. You have high lighted the point that I should be even more cautious. I will follow your advice.

My bow is now scheduled for delivery around the 3rd week in January. I will post my initial set-up what ever it may end up. Right now only the bow knows what it likes. Hopefully in three to four weeks it will tell me.

The Terminator Lites and the Rebel Hunters are being considered. The 4560's with 200 up front, should give me approxiamtely 523g and 570g respectively. The Rebel Hunters interest me if they can handle 200g up front.

If ya cut the 250 to 30"s and go with a 100 grain brass insertand 125 grain head you will be close, but I shoot a 54# at 28.5" Arroyo and a 29.5" 150 with a 50 grain brass insert ad 125 grain head(175 up front) and they fly perfect. The arrow all made up is right at 510 with wrap and feathers and nock. I am sure this will shoot perfect for ya and it gets ya right where ya want to be! Shawn

Thought ya wanted to be at 9 to 9.5 gpp, if ya want to get to 10 to 10.5 cut the 150 to 28.5"s and shoot 225 up front and you will be there. Shawn

CE 150's @ 29 1/4"  with 100 grain brass inserts and 175 field tips for practice.  625gr arrow

Then for hunting, same arrow with 125 grizzly's and brass broad head adapters filled with enough melted lead to get me back to the 275 grain tip.

They fly real well....and carry a little bit of smack too.

I am targetting 10 to 10.5 grains per pound.
Hoping to break the Extreme FOC barrier of >19%.  Seems like I will be approaching 11 grain per pound mark to even get close.

I have tried to insert my spread sheet and analysis but have failed.

I liked what you was talking about the arrows fly pretty good and that the arrows do a little smacking to.
