Helical and arrow spin?
« on: December 10, 2008, 12:49:00 PM »
This is probably something that shouldn't be so hard for me to figure, but..............I'm left handed, using right-wing feathers, does my arrow spin clock-wise (away from riser) or counter clock-wise (towards riser) ?

Thanks

You're leaving an important part out - the fletching needs to be applied with a helical jig.
Being left wing or right wing alone does not make the arrow spin.

When the last elk vanishes from the hills,
When the last buffalo falls on the plains,
I will hunt mice for I am a hunter and I must have my freedom.

With right wing feathers, use a right helical jig and the arrow will spin away from the riser.

Left wing the top of the arrow turns to the left. Some say a right handed shooter needs to shoot left wing and vice versa. Supposedly for best clearance. IMO, if well tuned it doesn't make any difference. You never want to mix left and right wing.

Actually they do, just not as fast. Most helical clamps are in the 1 in 60 twist rate....O.L.

They are applied using a right-wing helical

Thanks

I'm using the Bitz. jig with as much helical as I can get using CE Heritage shafts.

Ben, You need to use right wing feathers with right wing clamps and vice versa. With helical Bitz clamps you don't have much choice on offset and still get the quill to lay flat on the shaft. If you can get some offset and still get good contact, it wouldn't add or subtract much spin at all over what the helical is already doing.....O.L.

Thanks guys, I was wondering because I was looking at the Venom Viper broad-heads from Crimson Talon and was just kinda wondering  if those twisted blades would fight with the helical on my fletch.
