This PO Cedar was sent to me back in the early 80's. This arrowsmith produced quite a few of these for Mtn Lion hunting, kept them in his backpack. Thought it would neat to show it off..
Full Length w/ field pt
Broken Down for travelling
By the way....it shot great from my bows.

Joe;
Back in the 80's or early 90's didn't someone also produce some aluminum takedown arrows? Seems like i remember seeing them in maybe a Screaming Eagle Catalog?
Also, how does the two halves join, with a ferrule, as in a fishing rod?
Thanks

I think TBM, or maybe it was Primitive Archer had an article on how to make those a few years ago. I have also made them with aluminum arrows, very simple. Just cut them in half, and sleeve the inside of one piece with a piece of smaller arrow that's a snug fit. I think I used 2117 shafts with 2018's for the connecting sleeve. Could be handy on a cat hunt or for packing on a fly in trip.

How cool is that...I mean, I've seen takedown aluminums, but never a takedown woodie. Seems easy enough to do, just never thought of it...

might be a good way to repair some arrows as well. Take half of one and splice it to half another one. lol...

Where did you get that shooting glove? I can't find a decent deerskin glove that has a texture like that. The deer skin gloves I order from the big suppliers are really crappy. They are so thin
they offer now protection and the leather texture is kinda gummy or waxy resulting in the leather on the tips having too much friction on the string and sometimes wearing in just a dozen shots.

Just make sure you put the break off center or it will mess with the spine something fierce. The arrow gets a little stiff at the joint and if that is dead center - well you can see the problems.
Nice looking arrow.

I would like to see them but the picture doesn't show for me, hey, what's up with that?
I recall Bob B. had some at one of the past PBS gatherings.

for aluminum arrows all one would have to do is cut it in half and put a insert in one side then put a threded insert in the other side. ive thought about making some like that just for the hell of it...

I seen some pictures of Bob's that I believe were from the early 60's once, just can't remember when or where.

The broadhead used, regardless of how sharp, is nowhere as important as being able to place it in the correct spot.

Neat! But heck you don't need some fancey arrowsmith for this...I make my arrows into to halves all the time...In fact it's why I often have to make more!
