Turkey Harvest

This farm is set up great for turkey hunting, numerous long narrow fields full of picked soybeans make for turkey paradise. This farm has hundreds of turkeys on it and I've been trying for a week or so now to bust one. Had a close call the other day as they got to within a few yards of me before one hen busted me and they all flew the coop. Today was different however. I set up literally inside three big cedars off the edge of one of these fields and cut two shooting holes. This spot was perfect as the ground around the fields just fell off a few feet so as I was sitting on my stool the field was at eye level. I was getting all my gear situated and just settling in when I noticed some white heads bobbing up and down through the weeds about 60 yards away out in the field to my right. Here they came one after the other. They were scratching along when finally the first one made it to my shooting hole, then another and another. I figured there were around 25-30 birds in this bunch. I was waiting for just the right time when this hen stepped into the hole. She hesitated just long enough for me to get drawn and released. The arrow zipped through her and she fell right there. All she did was flop a few times. The others had no idea what had just happened and continued scratching and feeding down the field.
Here is where she fell, notice the hole in the cedars right at ground level in the background. I walked it off at 18 steps from my stool. Great hunt and one I'll long remember.

That is a great feat. A bird without a blind is a very tough thing to accomplish. Tripper
