Higher snow, Lower expectations

Finally made it to Christmas break and was hoping, even expecting, to fill a couple tags these last 2 weeks of December. With the DEEP snow and drifting I'm afraid the deer movements will be shutdown as well as my ability to reach them. Oh, well. I've seen my brother tag a couple, tagged a couple of rifle kills, and spent plenty of the "PEACE" time in the woods this year. Might be time to tune up for the indoor traditional league! Anyone else feel the same?

What Stone Knife said. They won't let themselves starve, and they have to move to stay warm. I don't have much success during the rut, too warm, running deer, plus everybody and their brother out stinking the place up. In alot of ways, I find the late season more productive than the early!

for me there is two things needed for a good late season hunt snow and cold!  the snow focuses deer and the cold forces them to feed prime food source is grain this time of year the higher protein content is most attractive to em get out there and give it a try cant kill em on the couch good luck!

Stone Knife nailed it!  They have to eat!  Set up an ambush and have a great time.  I love hunting in the snow.

Our bow season is so early here in NV.  I wish it was a little later with some snow coverage- at least I'd know where the good trails were then    .  
An extra layer of wool to combat the cold would be worth the filled tag to me.

The food source and cover is a bit farther then this old, fat, arthritic boy can make. If I would've known I was going to still be bowhunting at this age I would've taken better care of myself. Hoping for a small warmup so I can get through the drifts and get after them. Thanks for the encouragement!

Season is done here for me, unfortunately right before the snow came.Food and windbreak are the keys for this type hunting in my experience.But as youve asked I am very excited for indoor 3D at my club and outdoor 3Ds isnt too far away.Already started my technohunt league.

I'm hopeing to get out between x-mas and new year, but it sure is going to be tough with snow up to my backside or above to get very far.  If it keeps blowing the way it is today the drifts will be over my head.  I'm practicing in the basement.  Stay warm!

Monty, I decided to just go! Getting the layers out, strung up my low poundage recurve, got hte hand and body warmers and will give it a shot for the last hour hunt. That basement shooting sounds good though!
