Javelina/Hog Shot Placement Question

I was just B.S.'n around on youtube and I saw Dale Karch shoot a Javelina in the neck and just dropped it. It was a great shot no doubt about that, but do you guys (southern boys or just knowledgeable hog/javie hunters) take this shot? Im not saying its unethical or any of that stuff just asking if its a regular shot taken on these animals. Yes I know Javies dont compare to the massive hogs but they do have a similar circulatory system, do you take this shot on hogs? Just asking out of curiosity.

I personally don't intentionally shoot at bone structure on any animal larger then a Jack rabbit.

Javelina can be super tough.

I was watching Rick Welch's second video, he has some interesting ideas on shot placement on pigs (and shot a javelina in the head). It's been my personal experience that swine are not nearly as hard to kill as you might think, not that shot placement isn't important.

ya i agree i dont think that shot placement was intentional. Dale is a incredible shot!

 i shot two javies early this year at the Texas sweat this was the shot placement i was going for up the front of the leg on the white collar. breaks the shoulder hits the vitals.

I didn't attempt to watch the youtube vid (slow dial-up) but IF it's the same sequence that ended up on MBB vol.1, it looked like maybe his arrow was partially deflected.  Lot of tail-wagging going on just before the hit.

Got drawn for Javi hunt here in AZ starting in Jan. I hope mine goes down fairly fast.They can vanish real quick. I try to keep it in the shoulder area. Last year was a double lunger and just missed the heart. He didn't know he was shot untill he fell over.

Javalina are incredibly tough animals mainly because hunters try and shoot them in the same spot you would shoot a whitetail and put it down. The vitals are a little more forward in a Javi, Tradtuskers shot was perfect from the look of the picture.

Javalina are super tough animals they can vanish in tick brush very fast, In our experience the best place to hit them is between the collar and the ear, these is a very difficult shot but if correctly places the jav will fall there or walk about 4 yds, our javalina season is very long and sometimes the weather is pretty hot here in mexico and the rattlesnakes are in the brush, you don't want a long blood trail

Here's a  Javie I shot a couple of years ago, didn't get a good hit with the first arrow alittel back he was about 35 yards, he ran down a raven about 100 yards and went inside of a small cave, this was about 8:00 in the morning, I found him there from his blood trail, put another arrow in him at 10 feet between the eyes. long story short, I had to wait untill the next day, he crawled out of the cave sometime in the night and died. They are tough. The skull on the right is him. he really dosn't look it, put he's one of the better Javie's I shot in 21 years of hunting them.

IMO...that diagram is not accurate.....vitals are lower and so is the spine running through the shoulder area... I have some pix I'll try to find....

I have killed alot of hogs, and few javeys. I am convinced that the fastest way to put a javey down is to shoot it at the point where the top of the front leg, and the white collar intersect.

Even with a good lung hit, they can cover a lot of ground, and that hair soaks up a lot of blood.  

I shot one length wise from front to back, right through the center of his chest. The darn thing ran one hundred and fifty yards, only to pile up in the middle of a prickly pear patch.  

Hogs should be hit, low(like African game)right in the "V" of the front shoulder.  Just what I have gleaned from killing about twenty of the critters.

Hit the hogs where the elbow meets the chest.  Especially the big boars.  Like Curts pic depicts you will take the heart out and it is a nice soft spot to get plenty of penetration. It is only about two inches from the bottom of the chest but it works and works fast even on the largest of hogs.  

Javies - break them down thru the shoulders - penetration not an issue. Here are a couple of still images from two I shot that shows the arrow at impact. First one a tad high but neither made it more than 50yds.
