What yall using
« on: March 08, 2007, 01:59:00 AM »
Whats everyones gear? I am kinda new Just wanted to see what everyone else uses.

I shoot a 55# Kodiak with Cedars 125 grain points. I like Zwickie Broad heads.
I usually use old uniforms for camo or just dark clothes. I dont realy think a deer cares if its real tree or not. Shoot with a glove and 3 below , My little bow pinches everyone who shoots it.
Is it deer season yet?

Jeffery T/D Royal Mag Hunter 60" #60 @ 28"

Dwyer Longbow 66" #58 @ 27"

Dryad BBO I recently finished 66" roughly #50 @ 28"

I use Tapered Laminated Birch spined 60-65 w/ Wensel Woodsman heads for the Jeffery and Dwyer.

The Dryad get POC spined 55-60,same heads.

Shoot 3 finger mainly, but the Dryad likes split finger.

Really like wool, but can't always wear it around here,so then it's Mossy Oak.

My favorite bow is an old thoughly used Palmer TD single carbon, 54 @ 28", 60". I like the rubber cat wiskers for silencers and use 2 above and below the nock point. I shoot 2115's cut to 28 1/2"(I draw 27") with 145 grain field points for 3d and practice. Same arrow with 145 grain Ace Hex points for small game and 28 1/4" 2115's with glue in 5 degree tapers and Wensel Woodsman broadheads for big game. Also using some woods spined 65-70, cut to about 29". Still expereminting with the woods for correct arrow flight. I use a Black Widow tab and shoot split finger. I like the Great Northern, strap on bow quiver for hunting with broadheads. I use a piggy backer to carry a blunt for small game on this. I also use a Jack Bowers Stealth side quiver for 3d, stumpin, and small game hunting. I really like this quiver. Jim.

I am transitioning from a 45# Chekmate Falcon recurve, using 2117's, to a 68" 48#@28 Bow River longbow.  I am currently using every arrow I have, hexshafts, aluminums, ramin, douglas fir, until I find the one I like the best with it.  The worst case scenario is that I use my CM for turkeys again this year.
I like Magnus broadheads, snuffers and stingers on the aluminum shafts.
I made myself a Hill style back quiver that I use most of the time.  I also have a two slot hip quiver that I use when hunting with two blade b'heads.  I have a home made side stalker quiver that I use when I'm using Snuffers.
Finally, I am using a calfhair glove and shoot three under.  Switching from split finger improved my accuracy a lot.

For me this year it is an attempt to do it even less modern. It is an ongoing pursuit to refine myself and reduce the costs of hunting. Last year the only thing I spent money on to hunt was my license and the fuel to get me there. This year I am even going to try to make the fuel(Biodiesel).   :help:

Bow- 68" Hickory selfbow 50@28,
Arrows- Cedar & Poplar shafts, turkey feathers
BH- Zwickey Eskimo
Quiver- Leather and fir side/back quiver
Knife- antler handled file knife
Camo- None.
Shirts- Cotton or wool shirts in plaids that blend with the cover.
Jacket- Buckskin tunic
Pants- Wool or buckskin
Footwear- Mooseskin Mocs on warm/dry days. Tall Sheepskin Mucluks (Mandic, Uggs) for the cold stuff.
Tree stand- None
Blind- None
Calls- None. Mouth only
Cover scents- Natural plant oils, smudge, cloves
Deer scents- None

Lately, I have been shooting a 64" Javaman "Sweetgrass" longbow, but depending on my mood, I might grab my HH Big 5, or a 60" Shafer Silvertip. All the bows are around #60 at my draw. I'm shooting 65-69 tapered cedars with 145gr Ace broadheads out of the longbows, and 2216 aluminums with 175gr (snuffer + adapter) points out of the recurve. I've always shot with a glove, split finger, and use either a back quiver or a homemade GFA-style side quiver. As far as hunting clothes goes, it's kind of a crap-shoot. My wife claims I look like redneck homeless person when I'm going hunting!   :D   I usually have some combination of old camo and plaid on. The past couple years I have picked up some cheaper wool and love it, but if it's warm I'm just as likely to have jeans and a t-shirt on.
