Does this sound right?
« on: March 08, 2007, 08:53:00 AM »
I am new to this sight so I would like to say hello all. My question is does my setup sound right to you guys and gals?

Striker Slapstik 49 lbs. @ 28"
I will be drawing between 26.5" and 27"
CX Heritage 150 spine
145 grain tip or broadhead

I am new to traditional archery so any help would be great.

Thanks,
DS

Tune your bow with the bare shaft arrows, and you will know what you have. check out some spine charts too.
I will give thanks to the LORD because of his righteousness and will sing praise to the name of the LORD Most High.

Your spine is in the ballpark but as othres have said you need to bareshaft tune and this will give you your arrow length and weight. A properly tuned arrow will fly straight and penetrate the deepest.

Welcome to the gang DS.I just started using the same shafts off my 50@28" BW recurve(I draw 28")and got the bareshaft results I wanted with 190grns.(CX insert,50grn brass adapter weight and 125grn tip)on the front end of a 29" shaft.Fly sweet fletched.Same arrow might be too stiff for you,'cuz of your shorter draw, but I'm not familiar with the Striker Slapstick and how centershot it is either so.....Try shooting them full length with your 145grn tips. They'll most likely be weak so you can trim them a .25 inch at a time til they fly right. If your arrow ends up a little longer than you like you could add some weight to the front and trim a little at a time til they fly right.Just use one or two for tuning and when your happy you can make the rest the same...should fly nice when fletched.Just my 2 cents...hope it works for you.

The guys at 3 Rivers said that my arrow should be around 28" and weight should be around 10 grains or more per pound. Does that sound right? I am going to bar shaft tune, but how do I get the insert out to cut off 1/4" at a time? I like to use goat tuff and I cant heat carbon shafts so I don't know how I will do this without going through a bunch of inserts.
