What is your camping set-up?

Do you have a camp, camper, tent etc...

What do you use and what would you change if you could?  

I have had some major issues with our hunting club (members stealing stands) and will be looking for a new place to hunt.  The problem is I will need a place to stay.  If you have pics that would be great!

I have a 12x17 wall tent that I truly enjoy. I can set it up by myself in an hour or two. Nice wood burner also.

I have a 9x12 wall tent and wood stove that I use as a base camp on western hunts.  Usually hunt two or three people out of it.  Also use a 6-person Kifaru tepee tent and stove for spike camps.  Same number of people, but tighter quarters.

This is my home away from home.  I tent camped for a long time and wanted one of these for years.  This year I finally went ahead and bought it.  No regrets at all either.  

I did get a storage rack that slips into my reciever hitch.  It comes in handy for carrying a big cooler, game cart and other oddball stuff.

I have a 13' x 18' wall tent with fron fly that is the most enjoyable and traditional.  I also have a hard-sided pop-up camper called a Chalet.

All this year I just hunted out the back door.  Several hundred acres of private land and 2 sections of State Forest.

So dang dry I had no luck until the next to last day of gun season to bag a 'B' tag doe.

Now there is over a foot of snow and deer all over the place!

Maybe next year the weather will be better and I can set up an Elk camp.

The EZ-Up is the cookshack. That is ApplePie's tent on the left, mine is on the right. It is an 8-man Alaskan Guide from Cabela's. I am typically in the woods for three weeks every November. Cookshack has a propane stove and the Pregnant Lady (25 pound propane tank with two burners on the top) and a couple of lanterns in it. I have a Mr. Heater in the tent, plus a lantern or two. Air mattress (Coleman) and good sleeping bags, and a couple of sheepskins keep me comfy at night. I put moving quilts on the floor, too.

What would I change? I wish I could keep the heat down closer to the ground in both structures. I have been known to stand on the table in the cookshack trying to stay warm out there. I am unwilling to give up the headroom, though, and the durn physics won't change.

I doubt that this would be of much concern in Louisiana.

This is a 10 x 15 cypress cabin, the porch is an additional 10 x 10. I have a generator and as you can see it has air conditioning.
Inside is lighting, microwave, ceiling fan and sometimes a tv/dvd player.
But...quite often, I don't want to hear a generator or feel the need for electricity so I will get a few miles away and make a "spike camp" and sleep in a hammock or on the ground if it is dry enough on a ground cloth under a kifaru tarp.
This is on a timber company lease surrounded by state forest land, so I can ride the atv or walk for several miles to get away fro m the cabin.

I was lucky and got grandfathered in by the timber company, but they are phasing out all permanent structures.
Eventually they will require travel trailers or mobile structures like tents or motor homes.
Hopefully not too soon.

Wall tent for out West,extended hunts. I can set up/tear down in about an hour,cleaning everything as I store it.  

You might want to look at the new 2009 Coleman "Switchback", an mobile alternative to a larger popup or self contained camper. It is new on the market so pics are limited but basically it is a multipurpose trailer with a built in kitchen,tent on top. Might be handier than leaving a shelter at the lease and having it stolen,vandalized. Good luck!

I just picked up a GP Small (17'6" x 17'6" hexagon) military surplus tent with winter liner for my camp.  Built a wood platform floor to make it a bit more cozy.  I finally ditched the Yukon stove (again military surplus M1950) for heat since I didnt want to burn liquid fuel and wood just provided too uneven a heat through the night.  Stoking a wood fire every 1.5 to 2 hours is a pain and it would start out boiling you out and leave you shivering.  A dual element LP heater bought at Menards kept the tent warm and toasty all night on a 20# LP tank.  I still use the stove for cooking so it wasnt a loss by any means.  

This was my first attempt at making a portable camp for my hunting property and I gotta say it worked out excedingly well, beyond all expectations really.  Ill certianly be looking to improve upon it but I dont think it will be anything major in the immediate future.

Here's my popup That I use for hunting/camping.It has a water heater and shower.I converted the 12 lights to LED so I could probably run them a week on one battery.I have a Mr. Heater "Buddy" that is ran from a 20# gas cylinder. I do not run the heater when sleeping.

Great thread...I've been throwing different ideas around too.

Question about pop-ups....How are they in bear country? It seems there might be a problem with the kitchen/cooking area in the same area as the sleeping quarters with nothing but a screen or plastic window keeping bears out. Or returning after a hunt to discover Yogi was in your pick-i-nick basket.

 Anyone have any experiences with that?

Springbar Vagabond tent with fly it is really nice, tall, comfortable.Two cots inside with a table and cooking gear in the portico fly. Have a tent heater but it is usually 90 degrees during our archery season.  It takes me less than 10 to set up, and i use a heavy plastic coated tarp for the ground cloth.
Change? need more shot opportunities, but my camp is simple and comfortable.  I also have a sleeping bag with a goretex outer bivvy for walking hunts but my hip makes that a no-wayer now.

Spectacular.  When you sleep, you are just at the right level so the bear won't throw its back out carrying you off.  :-D

We have one and don't cook in it.  Hopefully that gives the critters (bears and others) fewer reasons to bug us.

Mostly though, I prefer our tents.  They go up and down quicker and seem less of a fuss.
