New To Me Dale Stahl Recurve - New Pics Added
« on: December 24, 2008, 09:51:00 PM »
I picked up my new to me Dale Stahl recurve today.  I've owned three Stahl recurves previously and have been kicking myself since I sold two of them.  I sold the third one because it was too heavy draw weight for me.

This bow has a gorgeous Cocobolo riser with some phenomenal Red Elm limbs.  The flat grain Red Elm on the back side of the riser really has some fabulous grain in it. It reminds me of Dale Dye's Medicine Wood (or would that be Red Elm?       ;)          :)     ).  The bow is 62" and 47#@28".  Below are some pics of the bow:

Gary,

Mr. Stahl builds a great looking bow with beautiful wood in them.  The best part is his bows are great shooting bows, too.  They have consistently been the best shooting bows I've owned.  I just can't figure out why I sold the other two that were in my weight range and shot as well as this one!  :(

Bill -- Beautiful bow. Glad you got another one after letting the other two go. Have a wonderful holiday season.

Donald -- Did you and Kimber move across the Red River? I can't believe you would leave red soil for orange country! By the way, my brother graduated from Austin College there in Sherman. I actually have very fond feelings for the town and the school. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and Kimber.

Bill.
Congrats, I know you have been looking for one. Looks just like the 62" 59#@28 I just got recently except mine has the Antler Limb bolts.  They are great shooting bows and fairly light in the hand.  Looks like I may get attached to this one. :archer:

Yep, Allan, they moved. Bought a house in Sherman.

Bill, Nice bow. Say, I lived in Goosecreek from 1982-1985.Nice little town back then.

Danny,

You wouldn't recognize Goose Creek today.  It has changed tremendously.  It no longer qualifies as a little town.

Donald and Kimber,

Thanks!

Gene,

My bow is not light in the hand.  It has one of the heaviest risers I've ever had with a bow.  I like the heft that Dymondwood provides and the Cocobolo in this riser is at least as heavy as an equivalent Dymondwood riser.

Gary,

I've been working on developing a list, but my memory is not what it used to be.  I've come up with a list of 70 bows, but I know I'm somewhere into the 90s.  I have kept count of the number of bows I just didn't write down the list.  I'll probably type up a list and post it and encourage anyone that has bought or sold a bow from/to me that they see is not on the list to post it to refresh my memory.     ;)      :)      :knothead:

That bow is very reminenisent of the Asbell era Bighorn right down to the curved limb beds. I say this as a compliment since I had several of those bows and they were great shooters for me.
It appears to be direct copy with the exception of the softer lines on the riser.  Very nice bow, Bill.. Are they still being made ?

Pat,

The answer is yes.  I sent you a PM with Mr. Stahl's contact info.  Below is his contact info, in case anyone else is interested.  Mr. Stahl makes some beautiful bows out of Bocote and Zebrawood.  He is a cabinet maker by trade, so he has access some phenomenally beautiful woods.

That is funny Bill , I have had quite a few bows as well but no where near as many as you and I cannot remember the bow I bought from you. But i know that you took extra care in packaging and getting it to me and I was well satified with how you treated me. I guess that is more important than remembering which bow i bought.

Gary,

Yes, I would rather you be satisfied in the sale than to be able to remember which bow it was.  That's a bad sign though, it means you, too, are buying, selling and trading too many bows!    ;)    :D    :biglaugh:

Beautiful bow !

Dale Stahl is one of those Bowyers people don't seem to know as well as someof the 'others' I happened to meet Dale by chance. Dale builds a few styles of bow and his work is second to none. He also sells supplies to a lot of bowyers from glue to glass. Check out his longbow hybrids... awesome bows - both of my bows were 'modeled' after his with a slight mod (he helped me)

Good luck and many wonderful hunts with that recurve !

Gorgeous bow, Bill!  I love the red elm limbs.  I think elm makes one very pretty limb...and it has wonderful attributes to boot.  Congrats on a dandy bow.

Tom,

I had a matching T/D recurve and a matching hybrid longbow built by Dale.  I bought the recurved used and the hybrid longbow from Dale.  He had the longbow in stock.  Both bows were built out of Bocote and were stunning looking bows.

Claudia,

Thanks!  They remind me of the Red Elm limbs on my Dale Dye T/D recurve in appearance.  And I have found the shooting qualities of Red Elm limbs to be as good as any other limb material on my other bows.
