Questions about Footed Aluminum Arrows

I have an idea of what a footed shaft is but I have several questions.
First what advantages is there to a footed shaft?
How would you go about footing aluminum shafts?
What type of materials do you use ?

I have never heard of footing aluminum, and I do not know what kind of advantage it would give. I have footed carbon arrows with sections of aluminum shafting. It keeps the frond end from splitting if you hit something really hard.

Thank you I was thinking along those lines but was not sure.
Is there any way to toughen up the front end of aluminum shafts? I had smashed a couple while small game hunting and stumping.

You could use the same process as with carbon shafts.
Find a larger diameter shaft that will just fit over your shaft, use, say, a two inch length, and epoxy that over your shafts point end.
It would certainly beef up the end of your shaft, and give you a bit more weight on the front of the arrow, too.

I am just not sure it would help. Carbon arrows tend to break at the insert, but aluminum (in my limited experience) can bend almost anywhere along the shaft if you hit something hard. I have some that bent almost at the middle, so footing would not have helped them.

Larry:
There is no such thing as an unbreakable arrow!!! every material used for the purpose will bend or break its the nature of the beast. If you shoot a bow you have to learn to live with it. Yes footing will add a little strength but they will still break.
