Don't Forget Our New Years Eve Shot
« on: December 31, 2008, 04:54:00 PM »
Yep, A lot of archers/bowhunters over the last  five or more years have taken to firing an arrow (into the future) to help welcome in the New Year, at midnight on New Years Eve. I think as many need to do it tonight as can, to help carry us into and through this upcoming year. Let's do everything we can to help make it better than it might be.
Do it in whatever manner you wish, in a target and retrievable, a burning one (into water hopefully), an arrow up, up, and away - LOL - involve the family if you can.

Pics would be nice (especially Full Draws -   ;)  ) but just git-r-done in any case. The very happiest, safest, healthiest, possible New Year, 2009 to each and every one of you.

Have to wait 'til tomorrow. Don't wanna put something up in this 50mph wind, and besides, I live on the highway.

Bernie, I hope midnight abolishes all pain and worry, and the dawn brings you warmth and comfort to last all of the New Year, and beyond.

Bless you all for joining in - it really is fun - though it is windy and cold here tonight also.

Killie, thank you so much for your very special New Years wish. May you and Clark have many, many years of your own lasting happiness.

I will be launching one north at midnight! I have been trying to figure out how I can make a flaming one, any suggestions?

I better not play with fire and beer. Even though I'm going to be with about 75 fireman. Nothing worse than a bunch of firebugs. Tripper

Twosheds, I think I'll avoid the gasline but I am going to experiment with some WD-40 and rags here in a bit!

Just shot thirteen braodhead tipped arrows in the last hour of light.  Plan to do 13 more at first light tommorrow.  I live in San Antonio TX and shooting one into the night might not be the best plan.

what might be neat is to tape one of those chemical light sticks to your arrow. Wish I had some of those  :(

I just wrapped 12 inches or so of cloth 2 inches wide to the shaft and tied down with twine and soaked it with WD-40. The first one didn't do so well I didn't let it burn long enough. The second attempt I let it burn for 40 seconds or so before shooting it worked perfect. It even burned on the ground out in the pasture for 10 minutes after landing! I'll be sending the next one up real high at midnight!
