deer hunting vs. hog hunting
« on: January 03, 2009, 01:33:00 PM »
Ive got a question maybe you guys can answer. I ve got a really great place to deer hunt but the dues are 1300.00 a year. 10 miles from the house in the river swamp ( 111,000 acres )is some great hog hunting and best of all is its FREE. Whould you guys give up your club to hunt mainly hogs next season? There are a few deer in the river swamp, but it is over run with pigs. On this state property you can bow hunt 7 days a week through our season, Oct. 15th - Jan. 31st. Also 95% of this land  is boat access only.

No limit and no closed season state wide. On the WMA you can hunt till the end of squirrel season Feb. 28th but you have to use a 22 rifle or shotgun. I went squirrel hunting this morning and heard some hogs but the palmettos were to thick for me to get close enough for a shot. These hogs have trails beat down through these palmetto thickets so they can easilly travel but its tuff to be quiet in those thickets. If you get a shot its going to be up close and personal. Hogs have a great nose on them, but very poor eye sight.

It would be a no brainer for me. Go for the hogs and hunt on foot.

I'd hunt hogs. Actually even now the rut is going on here I'm kinda waiting for it to end so I can get back to some hogs.

Here in Arkansas we are fortunate to have both deer and hogs also. Both are fun to hunt and both are excellent eating. Around here if you get out of a lease you might not ever get back in. May have to think about not getting a membership back if you get out of your lease.

Pork is good and the price is right. Like Terry say's in the video...if you live where you can't hunt pigs...MOVE!

I don't know what I would do without my beloved Whitetails to hunt. I love hunting hogs too but there's something about deer that really keep me
going.

If the club {$1300} is really good hunting I might have to think. But long seasons and lots of pigs I'd go for the other white meat, can you say BAAAAARRRRRRBBBBBBBBBQQQQQQQQQQQ!!!!!!!!

No way I would pay that kind of cash to be in a club. There are too many great WMA's in Alabama.Years ago I hunted Demopolis WMA and saw plenty of deer in bow range. There is also lots of Army Core land there along the river that is boat only access. There are likely fewer hunters on the Core land than at a club.
