Yeah buddy!!!  What a great buck!

...so now it was time to go look for my hog. We started out slow letting David get the dogs going. At first it didn't look like the dogs were on to anything. So we all started looking for blood ,and it was almost non-existent. I was really concentrating on trying to find something to give us a line to go on. I'd lost track of the dog and David. Apparently they were on to something because after being there about 15 minutes I heard some yelling...they'd found my hog!!  What a relief

But the buzzards had found it before us and had there way with his eye and the other end to...but it wasn't bad at all...kinda nasty lookin' though.....if you look close...you can see the bloody socket......

A nice young boar hit exactly as I thought....

Guru you said it right. Skyler is a true enough great hunter and good man. It was great to meet you and your Dad. Hunting with him you are making memories that will forever hold on. Also the other people that you are getting the chance to hunt with. One can learn a whole lot from the likes of Terry Guru Charlie and all the others that where there. I know that I learned something from everyone.

OK Guys, 1st evening I saw 7 or 8 small bucks and Does....About 30 minutes before dark, I HAD A mature doe pose for me quartering away slightly.....and I had already forgotten Terry's advice and last years miss, about aiming low...well maybe I'd get another chance....The next morning, I hunted "The CrossRoads"...The Deer started showing up before daylight and continued until I climbed down. I could see 10 bucks of various sizes at 1 time and saw some where around 30-35 deer this morning. Probably had at least 20 of those deer in range at various times of the Morning, but the first Deer of the Morning was the "Freaky Buck". He stayed with me for over an hour at less than 25 yards but I just never took the shot. It was never quite right and I didn't want to screw this opportunity up. More on 'FREAKY' later...I passed up several shots at nice bucks, 1 of which would go for a ride in the truck later on.....Sky had made a good shot on a hog, as had Curt, and we had bucks to look for.... IT Was an Awesome Morning.

Whew!  That took a while to digest.  I think I've got things straight!  Did Shaun's little dog get any tracking in?

Looks like a hoot.  You guys bring the food or was that included...that might be worth the trip in itself.

Oh...the bow in the pic is not the bow I used to shoot the buck with, but the one I took for the recovery.  Someone emailed me about the bow I used, so that  prompted this post as to any confusion.  I took a lighter version of the same bow just in case I needed to make a quick shot on the recovery.

I used a 60 inch 70# Thunderstick MOAB to take this buck.

Isn't the Solana a high fence operation?

No. They have a high fenced area with a few exotics in it, but the ranch is 10,000 acres.  Their deer hunting is not in the high fenced area.

WOW! What a fine hunt and gang. Just got home a bit ago so need some rest and then coffee before serious posting but wanted to check in.

Fine stories so far guys.

SteveO - that is our guide John's little terrier in the group photo, I'm just holding him cause I like him.

There is only one high fence area of 340 acres on the ranch and no one hunted in that pasture. These hogs and Hill Country deer are free ranging and plenty jumpy. Even though they came to feeders and sometimes offered brief shot opportunities, there we no easy chances.

Great hunt, fine food, best kind of friends new and old.

How does one sign up for this hunt or is that not an option?

I'll post a thread a little later once I get the dates, and we'll see where it goes....it will be available 1st to those that have gone before...and if there are any spots left, we'll post again to get them filled. Hopefully it will be an all TradGanger hunt again.

Keep me posted...I would be interested in a vacancy if they arise...roughly how much does it cost overall for the trip (lodging, airfare, the hunt itself etc?)
