Mini Cat Quiver?????"Update" Thanks!!!!!
« on: March 09, 2007, 04:30:00 PM »
I'm thinking about getting a Cat Quiver. I don't normaly like back-packs so I'm looking at the Mini Cat Quiver.

I'm just looking for possitive or negetive comments,Good or Bad oppinions,Likes or Dislikes.

Also wondering,How many arrows does it hold?????

Chuck i have a mini cat quiver, it's OK i bought it to use when it's raining out to keep my feathers dry i just carry it in and hang it in the tree. I will probably use it for turkeys this spring. I don't know if i would like it to carry all day stalking it seems kind of klunky if you know what i mean. They have there uses but i like my MAL back quiver much better.

Cat quivers are kinda picky when you are putting an arrow back in em. I had one for a few years...the aluminum on mine always managed to tap a twig or something.....of course...coulda been my own lack of gracefulness.
They do keep the fletching well protected though.

The Mini will work, but it does have some short comings.

The fletching hood doesn't completely cover the entire portion of the fletched arrows. If you use a long broadhead, like a grizzly, part of the sharpened blade will stick above the protective hood, which could kind of get in the way. Your arrows have to be the same length. If you want to carry a couple of blunts, you have to install a device to allow for the shorter length arrows.

The one I had always seemed to be getting more in the way than it should have. I still have a cat III, but I'm not really a fan of either style.

Chuck...you've seen my Cat 3.5 and it works fine for my needs. The only draw back is to replace an arrow, you have to remove the quiver. Big deal...my suggestion is to check the Rancho Safari web site and check out the Catquivers with the small pouches. You won't be disappointed and make sure you get it in fleece.

The only problem I have with mine is that I had to install an extension because of my 31in arrow.I also wish the shoulder strap pad wasn't wool. It's kind of hot and itchy in the summer.

Woodchucker:

I like the mini for several reasons:
-  It's a featherweight
-  Fletchings are protected from rain and snow
-  It's easily moved to whatever location you
wish, when ducking through low brush,
sitting down, etc.; it's not smack in the
middle of your back at all times
-  It works well with any daypack, should you
change your mind and decide to go that
    route.
-  Arrows are easily replaced in the mini
because you can move it to where you can
    see what you're doing.

All that said, they're not perfect.  No one quiver is perfect for all situations.  The drawbacks identified above are worth considering.

On the other hand, they're only fifty bucks . . .

I don't know if I'd trust all the information from these guys Chuck, I'm thinking maybe you should get one, send it to me for the fall, then I'll send it back and give you an honest opinion of any pitfalls it might have.........promise......  :goldtooth:

I love mine, already have a pack and carry a stand often so it works out well for me.As for protecting the fletch I think it's the cats a$$ LOL There isn,t any water proofing that works when ya drag your feathers thru wet brush.Since I got my cat 3 yrs ago that has not been an issue.

The blunt or judo arrows are a pain.Putting them back in requires that ya pay attention but ya can pull them out quietly without looking pretty easily.

Lets see I guess the fleece pics up burr's but you'd expect that.Really can,t think of anything else.... Good luck
Shoot straight and have FUN!!

I just noticed cat quiver extensions for judos and blunts in one of my many catalogs....it allows you to carry a mixed batch of tips. One more plus?

Hey David that's a good idea you have there   :readit:  Chuck i can put six arrows in mine with 125 grain Eskimos and keep the heads and fl etchings from touching each other. You do need an adapter to hold a mixed bag. Although i saw some were that you can modify one to hold various heads. I think they put extra foam in the bottom.

Thanks Jim, 6 arrows is fine. Never carry much more than 5 or 6 anyway. As for the "mixed bag" come hunting season.....EVERYTHING gets a broadhead!!!!!

I have a mini cat and like it just fine.  Normally, when carring I just bungee cord it to my pack.
