Let me get to the office on Monday or so to check my calander.

I didn't know there were hogs on Heyburn either and my folks live right next to it. Live and learn, huh?

Alright guys we kinda got this rolling with out you all.
I went to Cherokee Friday with Jesse69 and my son . I shot my first wild hog right at dark.
We were unsure of the hit so we marked the spot and left. Went back this morning with my son, best friend Russell, Russell's dad Doyle and new friend Archenemy. My son found my hog about an hour after daylight she went about 80 yards. I hit her about where I thought I did but she was angling towards me I got her liver. Glad I decided to let her lay overnight.
This evening my best friend Russell shot a good boar right at dark, we decided to let him lay up tonight and get him in the morning.

That's right. Jesse has been a couple times with us and Archenemy went Saturday morning.
We went back this morning Jesse69, Russell and myself. Russell and I sat where he shot his hog Saturday evening for about an hour then went to see if we could find it.
He wasn't exactly sure where he left off on the blood trail so we paralle'd the hill trying to cut blood, we hadn't gone 50 yards into the brush when I looked ahead and could see a hog laying about 30 yards in front of us. I checked it out with my bino's and could tell the hog was laying on his side.
We made our way up to the hog, it was a nice boar
Russell had been within 50 yards of him last night, it was getting dark and he wasn't exactly sure of the hit so he backed out. Turned out the hit although not ideal, was lethal. The hog turned just as Russell released, the arrow caught the hog in the left ham and penetrated up into the vital's. The hog traveled about 80 yards after the shot.
It's been a lot of fun meeting and hunting with Jesse 69 and Archenemy. I'm looking forward to hunting more often with them and others that we meet here on the gang!!!!!

I just want to say thanks to Daren for lettin' me tag along.  Got to hunt a new place with a great bunch of guys. I definately want to go again.

As far as the Jan. 31st hunt goes I can't make any commitments at this time.  My wife is gong to be induced on the 26th for our baby girl!  Yea, its about time. We are going to name her Easton except spell it Eastyn.  I would love to go with you all, but again I can't promise anything yet.

Daren tell Russell congrats on his hog.  Sounds like you found the right location.  Guys he is correct.  There was more hog sign there than I've ever seen in one spot.

Thanks Archenemy,
You are more than welcome to go any time you can get away. Just give me a call.
We are going to let that area rest for a week or so, then hit it again.
Jesse saw several deer Sunday morning, including a really nice 8 pointer. Just couldn't get close enough to get a shot.

Hey guys, I'm in northwest Arkansas and using the 412 tollroad I can get to the Tulsa area in a couple hours.  Where is this Hog hunt taking place? Is it near Lake Keystone, I know where thats at.  How about hog killing, does that take out of state license or like Mo. you don't need one for hogs?

arklongbowman,
You do need to have a  non-res. hunting license, I looked at the reg's and the 5 day is sufficient but it went up to $70!!!
We've been hunting at Cherokee Public hunting area. It's down by Talequah.
That's fine by me. I'll throw out some date's and you all give me some feed back.
BTW here's a picture of the hog I shot on the 9th at Cherokee:

Superbowl is on the 8th.  Everybody knows what the 14th is right.  Maybe the 21st or 22nd?

Congrats on the hog Daren. I don't live to far from there but haven't had a chance to go lately. I'll try to make it on whatever date is set.

I am hoping this will not be the only time we do this. So far all the dates have not been good for me. In and out of town for work and such.

You guys all get together and figure out where the best place is and I will show up and show all ya'll how to miss!

Seriously... I hope all of you can get together. We have needed to try and do this for a while.

Those of us in the NE part of the state (or any where else for that matter) is there a place out at Oolagah where we could meet up on a Sat afternoon and set up a short 3-d or a simple target range to fling arrows at?
